About the Role

Our client, a well-established manufacturer in Scarborough, is seeking a hands-on and dynamic Accounting Manager to oversee and drive all accounting and administrative day-to-day operations. This role reports directly to senior management and plays a key part in helping the business scale through strong financial oversight, planning, analysis, and audit readiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage full cycle accounting duties, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, bank reconciliations, accruals, and monthly/annual financial closing.
  • Supervise small team (1-2 staff in AP/AR), ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency of their work.
  • Oversee payroll for 100+ full-time employees plus 40-80 temporary workers per week: processing, deductions, benefits, and payroll compliance.
  • Prepare financial statements, management reports, budgets, forecasts, and business analyses; support business case development to help guide strategic decisions.
  • Assist with internal and external audits: providing documentation, supporting schedules, liaising with auditors, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls: design and implement accounting policies and procedures; identify inefficiencies and ensure accurate financial information.
  • Work closely with operations, procurement, and production teams to ensure cost accounting, inventory valuation, and standard costing are aligned.
  • Monitor KPIs, analyze variances, prepare ad hoc reports, and provide insights for improving overall financial performance.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • University degree in Accounting/Finance
  • CPA in good standing preferred
  • 5-10 years accounting experience (at least 3 years in a corporate accounting environment)
  • Strong knowledge and focus on internal controls and compliance
  • Good knowledge of Canadian tax and experience preparing & filing corporate tax returns
  • Excellent judgment, problem solving and attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines
