REPORTS TO:

Sanitary Sewer Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY:

Assists with the daily operation and maintenance of the City's sewage treatment facilities and pump station infrastructure.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with the Operation of city sewage treatment facilities; assists in the inspection, maintenance and cleaning of pump stations and all associated equipment
  • Assists with sampling of effluent from treatment plant, operates and assists in maintaining all affected equipment
  • Has an understanding of the SCADA system and software and is able to interface with to obtain required information
  • Attends division safety talks, crew talks, and required safety training; follows safe work procedures; reports hazards, injuries and near misses.
  • Assists with planning and scheduling work with various contractors
  • Operates City vehicles (Class 5)
  • Operates small tools (hand and power) as required
  • Maintains professional and technical requirements for the position
  • Performs related duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School (Grade 12)
  • Valid B.C. Class 5 Drivers License
  • E.O.C.P. Wastewater Collection Level I Certification
  • E.O.C.P. Wastewater Treatment Level I Certification
  • W.H.M.I.S. Certificate
  • Confined Space Entry Training
  • Traffic Control Person Certification
  • Basic knowledge of SCADA operation
  • Ability to approach work and relationships in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner.
  • Up to date knowledge of the City's computerized systems, administrative systems and office technology as required

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 years in both Wastewater Collection and Wastewater Treatment at a level one facility
  • Ability to maintain records pertaining to repair, inspectional and maintenance work performed.
  • Or an equivalent combination of experience and education

PAY RATE:

This is a union position with the current pay rate of $33.95 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.

HOURS OF WORK:

7:30 am – 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week
