Vancouver BC VZ H, Canada A&A Business Consulting Full time $85,000 - $112,000 per year

About Us:

We're Amanda & Amber Business Consulting – a boutique HR and change management firm helping small and medium-sized organizations build better workplaces. We're proudly women-founded, deeply community-minded, and committed to providing flexible, empowering work environments for our team.

Our client, a high-impact sustainability company with a client-focused, entrepreneurial mindset, is looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer. While this is a hybrid role, it is primarily remote. As such, we welcome applicants across British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan to apply.

The Opportunity:

As a key contributor to the Engineering Team, the Lead Mechanical Engineer will guide engineering efforts to find and deliver the best HVAC retrofit solutions for existing buildings across Canada. You'll work closely with clients to design and implement decarbonization and energy efficiency strategies, making a marked impact on the built environment.

This role provides the opportunity to work at the forefront of designing systems and developing scalable processes for building decarbonization in Canada. An ideal candidate would fit into the following core values:

1. Hustle with Heart – We get stuff done because we care. You'll lead the design of systems that create meaningful change for our clients and the planet.

2. Innovate and Adapt, Constantly – You'll develop solutions and systems that push the boundaries of building decarbonization at scale.

3. Own It, Together – Do what you say. Attack problems, not people. You will be responsible for holding yourself and your team accountable.

4. Say It Straight. Clear. Fast. Actionable – Time is precious; we use it wisely.

5. Client Focused, Always – We show up, step up, and deliver. Your designs will directly impact our clients' sustainability goals and help them succeed in their decarbonization journeys.

Key Responsibilities:

1. HVAC Design & Innovation

  • Lead the design of retrofit HVAC systems tailored for retrofitting and existing buildings, with a focus on decarbonization and energy efficiency.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, assess existing building mechanical systems, and provide recommendations for optimal equipment selection.
  • Prepare design specifications and ensure all designs meet applicable codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Lead mechanical design and coordinate with drafting teams.

2. Project Implementation

  • Collaborate with architects, designers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered successfully.
  • Clearly and simply convey solutions to client teams through discussions and technical presentations.
  • Oversee construction activities, perform site inspections, and provide guidance to the electrical engineer, drafting team, and construction teams.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in HVAC design and decarbonization.

Qualifications:

  • A creative mechanical engineer with a minimum of 3+ years of experience in existing building assessments and retrofit projects.
  • 5-10 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer
  • Experience with energy-efficient HVAC systems, domestic hot water systems, and plumbing systems.
  • Expertise in designing electrification solutions for heating systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to clearly communicate tailored solutions.
  • Exceptional project management and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta, or eligible for registration with APEGA.
  • A passion for sustainability and reducing carbon emissions in the built environment.
  • Strong communication skills and a strategic mindset with the ability to forecast, plan, and collaborate effectively.

Why Join Us?:

As the Lead Mechanical Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of innovation, shaping the future of sustainable building systems and driving tangible impact in the decarbonization space.
