GHA Surgical Centre – Hamilton, ON

GHA Surgical Centre is an exciting development in the delivery of ambulatory endoscopic services in the greater Hamilton area. GHA is an 8,000 square foot, free standing facility conveniently located on Upper James Street, near the corner of Mohawk Road. It is just a few minutes travel from the Linc and Highway 403.

The facility has ample free parking and easy access for patients, their family and staff. There are two endoscopy procedure rooms plus two operating rooms which function as endoscopy suites. There are assessment rooms and ambulatory procedure rooms on the lower level. We have created a facility that is a model of excellence in endoscopy and surgical service delivery in a community-based location. GHA's patient centred approach to healthcare provides high quality services in a friendly professional environment. Since its' inception this has given rise to improved access to care resulting in better patient outcomes.

The Directors and Medical Staff include local community and hospital leaders who have practiced for years in Hamilton and maintain active hospital privileges. This allows GHA to provide continuity of care for any patients who may require hospital based medical or surgical equipment.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Medical Director, the Physician Assistant (PA) will work under the direct supervision of a Physician. The candidates will support the priorities of Ontario's Patients First: Action Plan for Health Care by providing access to quality care for patients who require Consultations and Follow Ups for Endoscopy Procedures performed at GHA Surgical Centre. Nurse Practitioner patient care duties may include:

  • Completing comprehensive and focused health histories
  • Performing comprehensive and focused physical examinations
  • Performing procedures as determined by physicians
  • Providing counseling on health care promotion and preventive health care
  • Serving as physician extenders for physicians
  • Performing controlled acts as delegated by physicians
  • Perform any other duties deemed appropriate as determined by Physician

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Nursing required
  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in the Extended Class, NP adult preferred, or a combination of Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate and previous relevant hospital experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of nursing experience in respective clinical area required
  • Able to prescribe controlled substances as authorized by CNO
  • Current BLS certificate required
  • Current ACLS certificate required
  • Certification in Geriatric Nursing from Canadian Nursing Association preferred
  • Acute in-patient experience an asset
  • Emergency experience an asset
  • Relevant professional and specialty organization membership(s) (e.g. RNAO/NPAO, CGNA, CARN) preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership skills within the interprofessional care team
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and to assess situations and problems efficiently and effectively
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Excellent assessment, planning, organizational, problem solving, communication, teaching, time management and evaluation skills

$65- $70 / Hour
