Are you a skilled Electrician ready to elevate your career? Victoria Airport Authority (VAA) is seeking a dedicated and safety-driven Electrician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you'll help ensure the reliable operation of our electrical systems that keep the airport running smoothly — from airfield lighting to terminal power distribution. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.
As an Electrician, you will be responsible for performing electrical inspections, maintenance, and repairs related to airfield lighting and building electrical systems at the Airport. You will also be part of an 'on-call' rotation, responding to after-hours lighting, signage, electrical emergencies, as well as supporting winter operations when required.
The Electrician is a union position reporting to the Electrical Supervisor and will normally work a 40-hour work week. Some after-hours emergency support and regular scheduled maintenance may be required.

The ideal candidate will have:
Education & Experience
- Completion of Grade 12
- Completion of BC Journeyman ticket with a minimum one-year airport related experience. Preference may be given to applicants with a Red Seal or Inter-provincial Journeyman ticket.
- Minimum BC Class 5 drivers license with air brake endorsement. Preference may be given to applicants with a higher class of license (e.g. BC Class 3 with air brake endorsement)
- Knowledge of safe operation of tools and heavy-duty equipment
- Proficiency in the English language, both spoken and written
- Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of commonly used software programs
Within six (6) months of hire the Electrician must obtain and maintain the following certifications and security clearance:
- Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC*)
- Airside Vehicle Operator Permit 'D' (AVOP)
- Radio Operator's Certificate – Aeronautical
- Transport Canada approved Pleasure Craft Operator Card
- WHMIS certification
- Fall Arrest certificate
Skills and abilities:
The Electrician must also possess and/or demonstrate:
Significant knowledge of electrical systems. Previous experience in an airfield environment preferred.
Ability to facilitate installations and perform troubleshooting and repairs.
Extensive knowledge of airfield lighting circuitry, power requirements and associated equipment would be considered an asset
The ability to work with the general electrical systems ranging from replacing lighting fixtures to performing panel maintenance, as well as supervising and assisting contractor's work on specific Electrical systems Operating Procedures (SOPs) and TP312 Aerodrome Standards and Operating Practices
Ability to facilitate installations and perform troubleshooting and repairs.
Aptitude and willingness to learn new technology.
Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to work under deadlines with conflicting demands.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, regulatory documents, such as TP312, Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) Canadian electrical, fire and building codes.
Ability to read blueprints, engineering documents and manuals.
Ability to locate underground utilities.
Aptitude and willingness to learn new technology.
Personal suitability to work in emergency, hazardous (i.e. confined space, heights) or inclement weather situations.
Excellent interpersonal skills, able to interact with all levels in a professional, positive manner, able to build trusting relationships and be a team player.
