The Role
The Media Relations & Communications Manager plays a pivotal role in elevating the organisation's visibility, strengthening public trust, and inspiring action through strategic storytelling. This individual leads all media relations activities, shaping narratives that resonate across traditional, digital, and social platforms. With a journalist's mindset and a flair for multimedia content, the manager identifies and develops compelling stories, builds strong relationships within the media landscape, and collaborates across internal teams to drive meaningful public engagement.
Responsibilities
- Lead development and execution of proactive media strategies that enhance visibility in conservation and outdoor recreation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, producers, influencers, and media partners.
- Identify, shape, and pitch compelling stories that earn high-impact coverage and spark public interest.
- Monitor news cycles and social trends to position the organisation in timely conversations.
- Develop engaging content angles across legacy, digital, and social channels.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate initiatives into media-ready stories.
- Produce multimedia press materials and assets for broad and effective distribution.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in journalism, media relations, strategic communications, or a related field.
- Demonstrated success securing earned media across local and national outlets.
- Strong network and relationship-building experience with media and influencers.
- Exceptional writing, pitching, and editorial production skills.
- Familiarity with media monitoring tools, analytics, and performance-driven storytelling.
- Experience collaborating with diverse teams and subject matter experts.
