Summary:
Machinists set up and operate precision metal cutting and grinding machines such as lathes, milling machines, drills and grinders to make and repair products made from metals and new alloys.
- Reviews drawings, instructions, blueprints or samples to ensure accurate production and works without direction with most complicated drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions.
- Operates all types of machine shop (CNC and conventional) equipment
- Ability to perform, set-up and operate job related machines and programs (GibbsCam) (horizontal/vertical 4 axis)
- Ensure work piece dimensions are correct and set to established tolerance criteria
- Measure, examine and test completed parts, identify defects and ensure conformance to specifications and blueprints
- Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly and performing basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment
- Within the scope of the job requirements, to adhere and comply with provincial and federal law, the Company’s Quality program and procedures, Company policies and Safety and Environmental Regulations
- Organize jobs and material, ensuring they are delivered on time
- Takes precise measurements for cutting or shaping.
- Select appropriate machine and settings for a given task.
- Plans proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignment.
- Monitors production, adjusting feed and other settings as necessary.
- Maintains inventory of completed products.
- Checks output for quality assurance and documents defects.
- Maintains a safe and clean workstation.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
- Performs other tasks relating to the position’s classification
Qualifications Required:
- Journeyman Machinist within Alberta and/or Red Seal
- Mechanical inclined for machine maintenance and repairs
- Ability to assist less experienced personnel with work methods, habits and performance
- Ablility to maintain a set of tools to perform machining functions
- Strength, stamina and the use of proper lifting techniques required for handling items weighing up to 25 kilograms/50 pounds.
- Good coordination and manual dexterity
- Excellent coordination and mechanical skills
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety
- Proficient in math
- Basic computer skills
- Experience working with machine tools or mechanical assembly
- Working knowledge of safety protocols
- The ability to visualize a layout by looking at plans and prints
- The ability to comprehend and trouble-shoot mechanical systems, and
- The ability to get along with and supervise the work of others.

**Salary**: $30.00-$36.72 per hour
