This is also your opportunity to support the work of the Indigenous Education Network (IEN), a co-curricular body founded at OISE in 1989 and an enduring site of Indigenous presence at the university, comprised of students, faculty, staff and community members dedicated to Indigenous research and pedagogy.

Under the direction of the Director Office of the Dean, the Coordinator of Indigenous Education Initiatives will be responsible for the development, oversight and coordination of Indigenous education initiatives at OISE. Responsibilities will providing executive support to the Dean’s Advisory Council on Indigenous Education (DACIE), ensuring that due process is followed, that approved action items are executed and that deadlines are met. The incumbent will liaise with units across OISE to promote collaboration, communications and sharing of promising practices related to Indigenous education and student supports.

The Coordinator of Indigenous Education Initiatives will oversee the work of the Indigenous Education Network (IEN) including day to day management of the IEN office space, and team of staff and volunteers. With support from the Administrator, Indigenous Education Network, and advising from faculty and staffco-chairs of the IEN Leadership Team, the Director will identify priorities and oversee implementation of student supports and co-curricular programming delivered by the IEN. The incumbent will develop and track the IEN’s budget and complete reporting and documentation of activities related to Indigenous initiatives. The incumbent will respond to internal and external requests related to Indigenous teaching and learning, sharing knowledge and making referrals as needed; this may include delivering presentations and providing input on program, project and curriculum development.

The incumbent will also be responsible for providing advising and support to the OISE Registrar Office and Student Experience (ROSE) and departments related to Indigenous student recruitment, retention and success. This will include conceptualizing and organizing virtual and in person recruitment events, developing and maintaining relevant recruitment and program materials, assisting with the administration of the OISE Scholarship Program for Indigenous Students and financial aid requests, and identifying pathways for Indigenous students to study and succeed at OISE. The incumbent will offer knowledge in cultural safety and trauma-informed service delivery to colleagues in the ROSE and across the Institute.

The incumbent will also work collaboratively with the Advancement and External Relations office to participate in advancement and development activities, contribute to the development of advancement plans, and develop proposals for external funding. The Coordinator will also contribute knowledge related to Indigenous education, cultures, and social/political contexts to support development of targeted outreach and communications efforts. They will alsodevelop and maintain relationships with other Indigenous units and groups across the University of Toronto, and partnerships with community organizations.

This role will supervise one USW staff appointed position (Administrator, Indigenous Education Network), as well as, according to office needs, work study students, casual staff and volunteers.
