**Job Title**

**School-Age Caregiver (4 hours/day, Monday to Friday 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm)**

**Caregiver (Part-time)**:
If you have a knack for working with school-age kids, this job is tailor-made for you Dive into a role where you'll create a safe, fun, and dynamic childcare experience during our lively after-school program, Monday through Friday till August 28, 2025. Plus, There is opportunity for more hours during school closure days (7:30 am to 6:00 pm)

**Position Summary**

Provide care and lead children in activities to stimulate and develop their intellectual, physical, and emotional growth. Assist Program Supervisor in the planning and implementation of programs.

**Reporting to**

This position reports to the Program Supervisor and Centre Director.

**Key Responsibilities**
**Ensure health and safety**
- Perform daily yard checks for hazards.
- Encourage good health and safety practices throughout the day.
- Supervise children's activities with emphasis on accident prevention.
- Perform first aid when necessary.
- Know emergency policies and procedures.
- Record accident or illness or other serious incidents and report to the Program Supervisor.
- Review children's physical needs and allergies.
- Release children to only authorized persons.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of Centre.

**Guide children’s behaviour**
- Use positive reinforcement, modeling, observing, questioning, redirection, logical and natural consequences, in accordance with the Centre's philosophy and policies to guide children.
- Encourage the development of self-help skills.
- Model good communication skills by listening, making eye contact and responding with respect.
- Demonstrate respect for all cultural, social and economic diversity in the community.
- Build children's self-esteem and self-worth.
- Implement rules consistently.
- Address children's behaviour without labelling the child.
- Supervise children at all times.
- Report all incidents, issues or concerns to the Program Supervisor and Centre Director.

**Proactive communication**
- **With families**:

- Build positive relationships with families and caregivers through ongoing formal and informal communication about their child(ren).
- Work with families to provide the best care for their child while balancing the needs of the group.
- Keep families/caregivers informed of program expectations, program activities and their child’s progress.
- **With colleagues**:

- Maintain good communication with all staff and participate in the development of a co-operative team approach.

**Assistant with program planning and implementation**
- Assist in the planning and implementation of programming that meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of children in the program.

**Other duties**
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, parent meetings and special events.
- Participate in the buying of resources and supplies, with approval.
- Supervise and provide guidance to substitute staff, students and volunteers.
- Follow the Centre’s bylaws, parent agreement, and health forms.
- Read daily communications book, and record messages and updates.
- Prepare snacks and handle food.
- Assist and participate in planning TOOSCS activities, including social events and fundraising.
- Other duties as required.

**Knowledge, Skills, Abilities**

This position requires:

- Experience with Children
- Current First Aid Certificate and Responsible adult or 20hrs of developmental courses will be needed before starting
- Completion of a Criminal Record Check.
- Skills:
○ Hobbies and interests that translate to the school age environment such as sports (Soccer, hockey, etc.), Arts & Crafts ( knitting, painting, etc.), Other interests (Lego, Science, Carpentry, Acting/film, etc.)

○ Energetic and enthusiastic approach to childcare.

○ Flexible and eager to learn new skills.

○ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

○ Proficient at working in a high energy, socially dynamic, team-based environment.

**Hours of Work**

Hours of work for this position will be scheduled within the Centre’s operating hours**:Monday to Friday 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM**.

This position offers the potential for additional hours during the school year and during school break (Winter, Spring and Summer) full-day camps.

**Wage & Benefits**

This is a unionized position. Terms of employment including wages and benefits are specified in the current Collective Agreement. In the current agreement, the hourly wages is:
School Age Caregiver: $21.77/hr.

**Job Types**: Fixed term contract

Contract length: 6 months (Opportunity to be brought on permanently at end of contract)

Union dues will be deducted from the hourly wage(s).
