Position Summary
Jewish Family Services is looking for a competent Social Outreach Coordinator to join the Diverse Seniors Support Services team. As a Social Outreach Worker, you will be responsible for providing social and recreational programs and services to seniors living in the community.
This position is part time (21 hours per week) and based at Conseil Économique et Social d’Ottawa Carleton (CESOC). The position reports to the Manager of the Diverse Seniors Support Services.

**Job Description**:

- Coordinate and organize health related, educational presentations, social and English conversation classes, computer class, fitness/exercise programs and other need-based activities for seniors groups in the community.
- Coordinate and organize outdoor trips for seniors’ groups (book or rent a park, bus or organize walking groups)
- Connect with and maintain partnership with community organizations.
- Provide caregiver support to seniors and their families if required.
- Make referrals to appropriate community services.
- Facilitate French second language classes.
- Support Student placements at CESOC.
- Recruit, interview, train, evaluate and place volunteers in appropriate settings.
- Make and support appropriate matches between clients and volunteers
- Facilitate orientation sessions for volunteers.
- Manage all requests for volunteers and the wait list
- Promote the volunteer program to potential volunteers and clients
- Facilitate ongoing support of volunteers
- Encourage volunteers to be alert to changes in well-being of clients and to report them
- Coordinate volunteers in meeting the seniors’ specific needs such as visiting, driving or helping with events
- Maintain accurate volunteer files, records, hours of work.
- Schedule and coordinate volunteer recognition and appreciation

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary education in Gerontology, Social Service Work, Social Work, or Recreation or minimum 2 years’ experience with program facilitation
- Specific training in aging issues and seniors programming
- Comprehensive knowledge of multicultural issues and aging as well as knowledge of available community services/supports.
- Experience working with vulnerable clients and/or families.
- Experience in facilitating social programming.
- Excellent organizational and team coordination abilities
- Working knowledge MS office suite
- Fluent in French, Kinyarwanda and/or Kirundi and English
- Fluency in Swahili is an asset.
