Job Summary

The UBC Physical Therapy and Research Clinic is a student-led, fee-for-service Clinic owned and operated by the Department of Physical Therapy within the Faculty of Medicine to provide high-quality physical therapy care grounded in the best available evidence and serve patient populations within the community.

Organizational Status

The Department of Physical Therapy provides the only provincial program for the education of entry-to-practice physical therapists. Through rigorous scholarly activity, high standards of instruction and creative opportunities for learning, the Master of Physical Therapy Program provides a strong foundation that supports the current and future practice of the profession. The Department is also a research-intensive unit with award winning faculty conducting state-of-the art healthcare research.

This position will report directly to the Clinic Manger, PTRC and take direction from the Clinic Director, PTRC.

Work Performed
- Independently manages own case load, providing comprehensive Physical Therapy services (assessment, diagnosis, treatment/appropriate management, onward referral, and discharge) to a complex range of patients/clients.
- Ensures the provision of evidence informed high-quality care to clients.
- Regularly reaches or exceeds PTRC targets for case-load metrics.
- Communicates with referring physicians and other health care professionals regarding clients’ needs.
- Collaborates on relevant quality improvement and clinic initiatives as requested.
- Acts in a professional manner at all times, ensuring client centered care to a diverse patient population.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

Inappropriate judgment, errors or inattention to detail in patient care, charting, etc. could result in adverse effects to the patients and their care, treatment and recovery. Inappropriate patient treatment could result in patients and their families becoming frustrated, angry or seeking compensation. Both could result in damage to the reputation of the PTRC and the Department of Physical Therapy and impact the long-term success of the clinic.

Failure to maintain a full and robust caseload could negatively impact student progression in the MPT Program or their ability to graduate as well as negatively impacting the financial viability of the PTRC.

Errors or lapses in judgement in relation to data privacy and security could jeopardize a patient’s right to privacy and damage the reputation of the PTRC and the Department of Physical Therapy.
