Conditions of Employment:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver's license
- Must be able to travel throughout the province, with occasional overnight stays
- Must be able to work overtime if, and when, required

Qualifications:
**Essential**:

- Extensive experience as a negotiator, mediator, conciliator, labour relations practitioner or union representative with direct experience in collective bargaining, essential services or dispute resolution
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to address emotionally charged issues in a professional and respectful manner
- Experience in human resource management such as training, development, and performance management
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
- Strong written communication skills with experience drafting complex correspondence
- Strong verbal communication skills including experience conducting meetings or presentations with diverse stakeholders
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize competing demands, manage changing priorities and meet strict deadline

**Desired**:

- Experience in case management including intake, review, assessment, planning, processing, implementation and follow-up

**Duties**:
Reporting to the registrar, the board officer helps establish and maintain the credibility of The Board in the labour and employment community by consistently acting with integrity, honesty and practicality.

This term position will focus on the new legislative process regarding essential services and will be a critical mediator for the Board on those issues. They will train other representatives on essential service negotiation and develop strategies to limit the need for adjudication of these time sensitive matters. This will also include monitoring Board legislative deadlines, coordinating case management conferences and hearings and assisting with the preparation of Board orders. They ensure that all materials received for their assigned cases are processed and recorded in accordance with legislation.

Labour and Employment disputes, including assisting employers and bargaining agents in negotiating essential service agreements are complex and emotional, the officer requires strong interpersonal skills and a wide range of labour knowledge when explaining the Board’s processes, procedures and jurisprudence to employees, employers, unions and the legal community. Board officers need to show patience, tolerance, maturity, and understanding when dealing with the wide variety of clients and stakeholders.
