Communications Assistant

**Position Overview**
Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager, the Communications Assistant supports the creation of internal and external communications, ensuring messages are consistent and engaging for the targeted audience.
The Communications Assistant supports the development of content for a variety of media platforms and may be asked to research, write, proofread, edit, and assist with design of content.
**Accountabilities**
**Communications**
- Assists in the development of all corporate communications materials;
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with all business lines;
- Supports the insurance of internal and external messaging being concise and easy to understand for the targeted audience (plain language);
- Works to understands key audiences such as First Nations, Indigenous organizations, federal and provincial governments, and financial institutions and regulators, ensuring to utilize key demographics to target communications efforts;
- Maintains awareness of external partners/business environment and industry news;
**Media Coordination**
- Will support FMB’s social media channels including content development and scheduling;
- Ensures that key messages align with FMB strategies and mandate;
- Scans media marketplace to keep up to date on the latest media trends;
- Supports additional projects to support new initiative launches;
- Supports Internal Communications with media writing assignments and updates to the FMB website;
- Conducts research on Indigenous issues to maintain existing knowledge base;
- Supports the development and distribution of monitoring reports;
- Assists in updating and maintaining media lists;
- May be asked to log archive media interviews, press clips and media outreach;
- Helps various team members and business lines with communications tasks as needed.
The Communications Assistant performs other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**
- Post-secondary Education in Public Relations, Communications, Media, English, Journalism, or relevant field is a strong asset;
- Experience in communications, media coordination, or public relations;
- Ability to draft appropriate broadcast, print, and social media content;
- Experience working with Indigenous governments, organizations and communities considered a strong asset;
- Strong relationship building skills;
- Demonstrated effective writing skills, content development and editing skills;
- Effective working skills of Microsoft Suite and Adobe Products;
- Excellent communicator with written and spoken English; French language skills considered an asset.
**Working Conditions**
This position is based in Ottawa, ON. Hybrid or Remote work may be considered.
