This role’s primary responsibility to is to provide clinical care to the youth Brennan House’s program. There is also responsibility for clinical care to youth, and consultation with staff within Youth Services and at Wesley Youth Housing. Brennan House is an 8 bed adolescent mental health out of the home treatment program for youth across the gender spectrum aged 15 to 18 years of age with significant mental health concerns.
- Ability to work with an interdisciplinary team that implements clinically informed care plans aimed at improving mental health status; improving family engagement and relationships; improving global functioning; engaging in the community and enhancing life skills
- Provide mental health intervention including assessment, psychotherapy and advocacy services for youth in residence
- Serve as a central point of communication and coordination between youth, their families, program staff and allied community health and social service professionals
- Facilitate consultation, education and support to a multi-disciplinary team
- Provides clinical consultation and direction to the Brennan House ACTS Program and works with a small number of youths from this program directly
- Provide individual clinical care for youth at Brennan House and provides clinical recommendations to staff
- Thorough knowledge of mental health issues, substance use, family conflict, child and adolescent development, and youth justice
- Possess a working knowledge of issues related to gender-based violence, trauma, homelessness, mental health and substance use
- Work from a trauma-informed, anti-racist, anti-oppressive and feminist framework
**Qualifications**
- Assessment skills, counseling and case management skills, acquired through a combination of education (MSW, BSW, MA or M.Ed in counselling) and experience in mental health service provision
- Knowledge of community resources and services, social and environmental determinants of health, evidence informed practices in working in child/adolescent mental health, ability to develop and facilitate programs/groups to teach emotional and behavioral management skills
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team setting
- Current CPR and First Aid certificate
- Valid driver’s license required
- Excellent verbal and written communication, computer, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Committed to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good Shepherd Centres
- Fluency in a language in addition to English is an asset
- **Hours of work**: Days Monday - Friday. Flexibility around hours, including occasional evening work is required
