General Maintenance Worker

The Maintenance Worker performs maintenance and repairs related to buildings, grounds, and equipment, in one or more areas such as electrical, plumbing, painting, and groundskeeping. The Maintenance Worker will work in various locations The Maintenance Worker will ensure that all leased properties maintain a certain level of standard in order to maintain professional relationships with landlords. The Maintenance Worker will seek approval for all purchases from the Business & Administration Lead and/or the Director(s). The Maintenance Worker is accountable to the Business & Administration Lead and/or the Director(s) of Anew Centre for Healing.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Establishes, monitors, and carries out preventative maintenance procedures and schedules for buildings, equipment, and grounds. Ensures buildings and equipment meet all safety, security, and fire regulations and policies. Makes recommendations for major repairs and purchases to the Supervisor/Director(s);
- Monitors work performed by external contractors, prepares estimates of labor and material costs if necessary, contacts external contractors and tradespeople to obtain quotes, and arranges for major repairs and maintenance work;
- Collects and removes garbage and recyclable materials and ensures the safe disposal of hazardous waste;
- Cleans external areas such as entranceways, sidewalks, and parking lots using manual and power brooks, rakes, shovels, and other equipment to remove dirt, leaves, snow, and other refuse. Performs minor gardening and lawn maintenance tasks such as mowing, weeding, pruning, and watering;
- Completes and maintains related records such as maintenance logs, monthly facility checklists, and security incident reports;
- Checks functionality of safety systems (e.g. fire alarm);
- Inspects and troubleshoots equipment and systems (e.g. ventilation);
- Transports equipment, furniture, and supplies manually and/or using aides such as dollies and carts. Operates a motor vehicle to pick up and move goods and supplies. Arrange furniture for special events;
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Grade 10, plus related vocational training such as building maintenance course;
- Two (2) years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;
- Current criminal (with vulnerable sector search) and current intervention record checks (6 months or newer);
- Driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract;
- Experience using hand and electrical tools;
- Good communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills;
- Professional presentation and attitude;
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills;
- Eye for detail;
- Strong time management skills;
- Physical stamina and dexterity;
- Non-judgmental manner;
- Strong personal boundaries
**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 24 - 38 per week
