**Position Summary**

The Health and Safety Officer is responsible for implementing and maintaining the Health and Safety Program. The position works to enhance, reinforce and continually improve the safety culture by ensuring internal policies and external requirements for safety in the workplace are met.
The Health and Safety Officer also is the initial point of contact for any WCB claims and helps to facilitate the return to work program after an incident.

**Job Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Generate and promote a positive health and safety culture.
- Provide health and safety-related information to Management, Supervisors and Workers as required and requested
- Control and update Health and Safety Manual, Policies and Procedures, forms and checklists
- Support the initiatives of the JOHS Committee and conduct independent inspections, internal audits and reviews, and follow up on outstanding issues and/or corrective actions with Supervisors
- Develop, manage and control new employee safety orientation
- Manage Work Safe claims
- Deal directly with Work Safe when issues arise
- Support and direct employees with all matters regarding occupational disability leaves
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge
- Contribute to team effort and complete other duties as required or assigned.

**Qualifications**
- Experience in a related Health and Safety position within the Construction industry
- Solid knowledge of WorkSafeBC Act, Regulations and Standards
- Demonstrated experience creating OHS Programs, policies and procedures, and the ability to evaluate and improve processes and safe work procedures
- Strong organizational skills and an ability to work alone, prioritizing tasks and responsibilities accordingly
- Excellent relationship building and communication skills
- Travel will be required

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $52,000.00-$57,000.00 per year
