**JOB SUMMARY**:
The Assistant Coach, Varsity Women’s Soccer, plays a pivotal role in supporting the success and ongoing development of Ontario Tech University's women's soccer program. Reporting to the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach is responsible for contributing to the athletic and personal growth of student-athletes, maintaining a competitive team environment, and upholding the values and mission of the University.
Key responsibilities include leading recruitment strategies, supporting team operations and program management, and assisting in planning and delivering high-quality coaching sessions. The Assistant Coach is expected to actively contribute to the creation of a positive, inclusive, and performance-driven team culture. In addition, the role involves administrative oversight, community engagement, and collaboration with the Athletic Department to ensure program success at the provincial and national level.
This position requires a strong commitment to student-athlete development, compliance with Ontario Tech and governing body regulations, and a proactive approach to building a reputable and sustainable varsity sport program.
**MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Program Management:
- Support the implementation of the program's annual plan
- Take a lead role in administrative responsibilities such as team paperwork, registrations and waivers
- Game film analysis
- Coordinate team travel and logístical components in consultation with the Athletic Department
- Support the organization of all team-related activities, including games, training camps, practice sessions, and other team functions
- Provide academic support to players in collaboration with the department’s athletic advisor
- Manage and oversee the team’s social media platforms
COACHING THE TEAM:
- Assist in setting and achieving annual program objectives that encourage athletes to reach their highest potential
- Foster a high performance, accountable team culture aligned with the standards and regulations of Ontario Tech University, Varsity Athletics, OUA, and U SPORTS
- Support the implementation and evaluation of team initiatives, including annual training plans for the team and individual players
- Team playing system, culture, and philosophy
- Detailed strategies and plans for games and practices
- Ongoing assessment of player, team, and staff progress using
- statistics, team meetings, and regular feedback
RECRUITMENT:
- Collaborate with the Head Coach to design and execute an annual national recruiting strategy
- Identify, contact, and build relationships with prospective student-athletes in accordance with OUA, U SPORTS, and Ontario Tech policies
- Develop and maintain relationships with clubs, coaches, and organizations for recruiting purposes
- Liaise with the Athletic Department and recruitment office regarding potential and committed recruits
REVENUE GENERATION:
- In partnership with the Head Coach and Athletic Department, develop a plan to meet self-financing goals for the program
- Contribute to the planning, marketing, staffing, and delivery of Ridgebacks soccer camps and clinics
COMMUNITY RELATIONS:
- Engage and strengthen relationships with alumni through events, communication, and fundraising initiatives
- Represent and promote the program and university at Local events, coaching clinics, and through partnerships with local sport organizations
**Education**:
- An undergraduate Bachelor degree consisting of 2 academic years or equivalent related experience to coaching is required
- Minimum Coaching Certification NCCP Level I, or equivalent is recommended to have completed or be in progress
- Training and/or experience may be substituted for formal academic training at the discretion of the University
- Verification of Academic credentials may be required
**Experience**:
- Minimum 1 year coaching experience preferably at the university, local, provincial level, or equivalent
- Playing experience preferably at the University level at minimum
- A proven record of integrity, high principles, and demonstrated skill in developing / motivating student-athletes both academically and athletically
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment, get along and work well with members of the department, supervisors and other employees of the university
**Knowledge**:
- Knowledge of academic system at the University level
- Knowledge of OUA/USPORT associations
