Digital Experience Learning Coordinator

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Manager, New Media, the Digital Experience Learning Coordinator is responsible for planning, advising, and consulting with faculty members, contract instructors, staff, and teaching assistants on the use educational technologies, including immersive media technology, in teaching and learning activities at Carleton. The position will support instructors and staff in engaging with educational technologies for experiential learning opportunities at Carleton.
The incumbent will also evaluate and look critically at new technologies, teaching practices, and research to ensure that TLS is providing the best possible teaching and learning tools and approaches to faculty members and students in a way that is informed by educational research and established best practices in the fields of experiential learning and educational technology.
The Digital Experience Learning Coordinator will plan, develop, and facilitate one-on-one training and group workshops, as well as design and deliver online tutorials (synchronous and asynchronous) relating to the use of any form of technology used to enhance teaching and learning. The Digital Experience Learning Coordinator is responsible for efficiently managing multiple projects related to immersive media at Carleton. These can include new initiatives, instructor projects, or continuing management of long-term projects. Assisting the New Media Production Coordinator with scheduling and occasionally supervising volunteers and students will be required.
**Qualifications**:
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
- Proven working experience in teaching and learning.
- Excellent knowledge of active learning theories and high impact practices.
- Expertise with immersive reality, video creation tools and scanning tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Commitment to service excellence and an ethic of care.
Knowledge and expertise in the following areas:
Design and Development
- Select, modify or create an educational technology enhanced learning experience appropriate for the instructional and learning outcomes.
- Structure content based on educational research, pedagogical design practices and instructor input.
- Develop, select, modify or create immersive technology support materials.
- Leadership in assessing equity, diversity and inclusion and Indigenous perspectives in immersive learning.
Implementation and Coordination
- Plan, coordinate, and organize projects (project management).
- Conduct needs analysis to help determine requirements.
- Promote and initiate collaboration (i.e.ITS, Library, PMC, instructors, HR, EHS, and SASC).
- Evaluate initiatives (select instruments, methodology, collect and analyze data).
- Administer ticketing and help desk systems.
Communication/Training
- Consult with instructors and learners.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Initiate collaboration (i.e. ITS, library, instructors, HR, EHS, and SASC).
- Develop documentation and end-user training materials.
- Evaluate and report on activities relating to communication initiatives.
Computing/Web Application skills
- Immersive learning hardware and software.Office suite of tools, Learning management platforms,, Microsoft Teams and similar.
- Basic image editing and graphic design skills.
- Basic video/audio editing.
- Basic Scanning software
- Basic Simulation software and hardware
- Basic reporting and analysis of metrics and learning analytics.
Customer-facing skills
- Experience in working in a university environment, across multiple departments and faculties.
- Experience delivering training workshops.
- Experience leading Communities of Practice.
- High professional, service and solution oriented.
The incumbent must have effective organizational skills and excellent communication skills (both written and verbal). Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, as well as good judgment, initiative, resourcefulness, tact and discretion are essential. Moreover, the incumbent must possess the ability to work under pressure and to remain focused. Adaptability and attention to detail will be the key to this position, as well as the ability to work in a team environment.
**Education and Experience**:
The above is normally acquired through:
- Completion of a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology or a related field is required.
- The incumbent must have a Minimum of 4 years’ experience.
- Experience in supporting immersive events, including coordinating and using VR headsets in an educational context.
- Experience working within a teaching and learning environment is preferred.
