**Job description**

**Position Summary**:
The Equipment Operator (Marine Construction) role entails the operation of a variety of heavy machinery including but not limited to excavators, skid steer loaders, drilling and vibrating and pile driving attachments and accessories used in marine on-water and near-water construction and landscaping tasks. The incumbent will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of such equipment as well as performing general maintenance and repair services, transport/loading/unloading/rigging of materials and associated general marine/construction crew labourer duties.

**Duties**:
1. Operate the excavator/hoe/skid steer loader and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.

2. Load/unload and transport equipment and materials via truck/trailer.

3. Load/unload construction materials such as structural steel H/I beams, C-channel and round pipe/pile rigging and securing as necessary.

4. Set/install in and near water pilings/sheet pile using vibrator equipment/attachments.

5. Set/install in and near water pilings using drilling equipment/attachments.

6. Properly rig/sling and set steel/wood materials for dock/deck and boathouse construction.

7. Perform basic welding tasks for maintenance and layout of structures.

8. Perform in water dredging, material excavation and relocation.

9. Perform demolition and removal of in and near water structures.

10. Perform shoreline landscaping, contouring, grade cutting and setting of retaining wall structures.

11. Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.

12. Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, and clean, lubricate and refill equipment as necessary.

13. Perform regular cleaning of equipment.

14. Works collaboratively as part of a marine construction team, undertaking other marine crew and general labourer tasks as necessary.

**Working Conditions**:
1. The worksites are typically outdoors on or near water. Equipment operation is performed both from floating barge vessels as well as from land.

2. Work weeks are generally 5 days, Monday to Friday

3. Regulatory/seasonal work windows may require occasional extended weekday work hours.

4. Safety and personal protective equipment i.e., safety shoes/boots, hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection and life jacket/PFD are mandatory.

5. Occasional travel and training may be required.

**Employment Requirements**:
1. Ontario Secondary School Diploma

2. Proven experience operating excavator, backhoe or equivalent.

3. Possess a valid Class G drivers licence with a clean driving record.

4. Proficient spoken and written English. Able to communicate clearly and concisely.

5. Punctual and reliable

6. Customer service oriented, courteous manner.
