**Job Description**:

- Assist with the implementation of programming, behaviour management, and physical care for children and youth attending the Urgent Response Services (URS) and Extensive Needs Service (ENS) respite within the CHEO Neurodevelopmental Health department. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide support to children and youth with complex medical, behavioural, and social issues.
- Evening and weekend work will be an expectation of the position. This position is located in Cornwall.
- MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES- Assist in the development, implementation and participation in program activities for the assigned client.-
- Assist in the implementation of all aspects of program operations including set-up, take-down and clean-up of facilities and equipment.-
- Assist with any physical care required for the assigned client (e.g., lifting, transferring, assisting with toileting, positioning, feeding, etc.).-
- Establish and maintain clear understanding of the rules and boundaries of the program for the assigned client.-
- Support and manage challenging behaviour of the assigned client with the support of a multidisciplinary team, and under the direction of a Behaviour Analysts.-
- Understand and implement appropriate intervention strategies.-
- Support assigned client to achieve their established goals using a strengths-based approach.-
- Provide encouragement and promote positive behaviours.-
- Function as part of a team by communicating with staff, participants and their families.-
- Ensure supervision and safety of assigned clients.-
- Perform work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all CHEO corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.-
- Perform other related duties as required.- QUALIFICATIONS
- EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Minimum of a two-year Diploma in Developmental Service Worker or similar field.-
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certification is required.-
- Standard First Aid and Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR-C) Level C required.-
- Applied Behaviour Analysis training is preferred.- EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 1-year recent related experience working with children and youth with disabilities including children and youth with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder and/or with complex behaviours and/or with complex mental health needs.-
- Knowledge and experience with behaviour management strategies is required.- SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills.-
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.-
- Demonstrated ability to engage with children and youth.-
- Demonstrated ability to provide stimulating and entertaining programming.-
- Demonstrated understanding of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) principles.-
- Demonstrated flexible approach to work demands.- EFFORT:
- Physical strength and stamina are required.- WORKING CONDITION:
- Potential exposure to bodily fluids-
- Exposure to high-risk client behaviour-
- Flexibility to work evening and weekends.- OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) is required.-
- Bilingualism is preferred.-
- Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is necessary.-
- Ability to travel to provide service to clients throughout the Eastern Ontario region.-
- Ability to travel to provide service to clients throughout the Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry county.-
- Ability to attend last-minute meetings in the Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry county.-
