**Program: Children & Youth Chess Program**

The Huron Community Association offers a variety of different activities for adults and children/youth of all ages.

The HCA is looking for staff who are organized, motivated to participate, and skilled at being asset builders for children and youth. You may be asked to also supervise additional volunteers.

Major Responsibilities:

- Plan and implement age-appropriate activities for children/ youth ages 6 to 14years for the Chess Club Program ( Chess Club 6-9yr olds & Chess Club 10-14 yr olds)
- Participants in the Chess Club Program will get to learn how to play chess, different strategies for game play, while also playing active games of chess with their peers, in a fun setting
- The instructor will be responsible for creating the Chess Club Program plans to implement the program, and active chess play for participants
- Foster the development of friendships, celebration of creativity, and increasing of self-esteem amongst the participants
- Coordinate child/youth centered programming and ensure that supplies are available
- Provide coordination, support and leadership to the other program staff and volunteers.
- Act as a positive role model for program staff, volunteers, and participants
- Implement positive and effective behaviour management strategies

Qualifications:

- Knowledge and experience in child programming, specifically around Chess and how to teach chess
- Must possess relevant leadership, administration, supervision, communication, social development and positive behaviour management skills
- Experience leading a club or relevant activities an asset
- Standard First-Aid Certificate, or willing to obtain
- Police check required upon offer of employment
- Ability to work independently and purchase supplies within a budget
- Own transportation to program location will be required

Recommended age: 18 years of age and older

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 2 - 4 per week

**Experience**:

- working with children: 1 year (required)
- Chess knowledge and how to teach chess: 1 year (required)
