The Chief Surveyor utilizes their extensive knowledge to contribute to the continued success and growth of the organization. The Chief Surveyor will be assigned to projects in and around the Vancouver area. The responsibilities of the Chief Surveyor include:
- Leading the planning and implementation of survey requirements to execute construction activities;
- Selecting the survey equipment required for the project;
- Ensuring equipment is maintained and calibrated;
- Maintaining accurate survey records, documentation, and stamped submittals;
- Providing layout at various stages of construction;
- Monitoring, organizing, and managing the activities of the survey department, including assigning surveyors and tasks based on project needs;
- Managing as-builts information and digital records;
- Ensuring ground, surface, and office surveys are completed per project requirements;
- Monitoring high level engineering grade construction activities;
- Downloading survey data, completing calculations, problem solving, as well as the maintenance of high accuracy of project information;
- Providing expertise and guidance to the department, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide technical expertise and ensure successful completion of projects;
- Ability to conduct traverse, network, monitoring, topographical, and as built surveys, as well as construction surveys;
- Providing progress reports and field data to appropriate parties involved in the project.
**Requirements**:
- Completion of post-secondary studies in Surveying, Geomatics, or Engineering, or other applicable training;
- Minimum 15 years of relevant work experience in the surveying field, with a minimum of 5 years of heavy civil construction experience;
- Drivers license is required;
- Experience in major construction projects in an urban environment;
- Knowledge of survey practices and standards;
- Knowledge of engineering design and survey methods;
- GPS and total station experience is required;
- Strong knowledge of complex survey tools and equipment;
- Demonstrated leadership skills;
- Good knowledge of Job Site Health and Safety rules and regulations;
- Knowledge and professional proficiency with MS Office Suite, Surveying software, and Engineering-based software;
- Must be willing and capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions;
- Bilingual (an asset), but proficiency in English language with excellent communication skills (written and verbal) is required.
