**Job Purpose**

The Aboriginal Family Support Program Coordinator for CAPC/CPNP will provide responsive groups to pregnant women and new moms, and to parents with children birth to six years of age, who face barriers such as low income, low literacy, lack of transportation etc. Groups will be provided in partnership with the Barrie Native Friendship Centre within the guidelines of the Community Action Program for Children (CAPC) and Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program (CPNP). The Group Facilitator will promote the groups and complete intakes for new participants.The applicant will work as part of a team in a dynamic environment that works collaboratively to optimize relationships with team members, BNFC members, and our organizational partners.

**Primary Duties and Responsibilities**
- Maintain strict confidentiality.
- Overseeing the Aboriginal Family Support Program (AFSP), which includes planning, programming and reporting
- Working with BNFC’s Aboriginal Family Support Program Assistant
- Assist in all or designated parts of planning, organizing, recruiting families, flyer development, delivering workshops or other parent education activities as needed.
- Debrief weekly with co-facilitators, guest speakers, and children’s programmers.
- Ensure that outcomes specified for each group session and/or workshop as well as individual participants have been achieved.
- Complete intakes for potential CPNP and CAPC participants within the
- specified guidelines.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date participant files, consent forms and
- statistics.
- Organize food supplements, child care and transportation, within guidelines.
- Evaluate the groups on an ongoing basis.
- Maintain positive relationships with community agencies, businesses and others.
- Provide leadership in community efforts to address the barriers facing CAPC/CPNP families (such as poverty, low literacy, transportation etc).
- In collaboration with the BNFC Community Facilitator, raise profile about the issues commonly experienced by CAPC/CPNP families.

**Secondary Duties and Responsibilities**
- Maintain positive relationships with community agencies, businesses and others.
- Provide leadership in community efforts to address the barriers facing CAPC/CPNP families (such as poverty, low literacy, transportation etc).
- In collaboration with the BNFC Community Facilitator, raise profile about the issues commonly experienced by CAPC/CPNP families.
- Working and contributing with the team to organiziational wide special projects (ie. Pow Wow, Food Baskets, etc) when needed
- Representing BNFC when required in committee meetings on behalf of BNFC’s Executive Director

**Qualifications and Experience**
- Post-secondary education in Indigenous studies, health promotion, Early Childhood Education and/or a combination of an equivalent and relevant education
- Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on family violence, child welfare, the impacts of trauma, Indigenous youth engagement and community outreach
- Knowledge and experience working wit urban Indigenous children and families
- Exceptional knowledge of Indigenous historical and contemporary issues
- Minimum 3-5 years of demonstrated and related work experience within an Indigenous community or organization
- Experience with computer software, including software for data collection
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, research, data analysis, and report writing skills.
- An ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must have a valid and current CPIC/VSS.
- Valid Class G Driver’s License

**Employment Conditions**

Specific employment conditions are specified in an employment contract with the Executive Director.

- Valid Ontario Driver’s License, use of own insured vehicle
- CPR and AED Certificates
- Proof of vaccination or recognized exemption in alignment with the BNFC COVID-19 Vaccination Policy

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekend availability

**Education**:

- AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (required)
