Opportunity Place, a Nova Scotia Works Employment Services Centre, provides access to high quality, inclusive employment services for employers and job seekers in Bedford/Sackville and area. We provide one-on-one support, workshop facilitation, employment assessments, case management, job development, employer engagement and employment maintenance services.
Under the direction of the Executive Director and/or designate, the NS Works School Liaison works collaboratively with students, family members, educators, school board personnel, LSI, EECD and other government departments and community partners including employers/industry to develop and enhance relationships with the education community to: assist students in grades 7-12 and their families in the development and implementation of career and post-secondary goals and; access and implement tools to measure the success of School Liaison supports and outreach. The NS Works School Liaison will offer services in support of students attending high school in the communities of Fall River and Bedford.
The NS Works School Liaison will ensure that student interactions are conducted in a respectful manner adhering to standards, policies and procedures. The NS Works School Liaison will be responsible for the delivery of both in-house and outreach services to students and community partners.
The NS Works School Liaison is a highly dynamic, organized and detail-orientated individual with outstanding people skills, is highly adaptable and flexible and has a passion for helping students/families to successfully implement their career goals.
The Departments of Labour Skills & Immigration (LSI) and Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD) entered into a partnership in December 2017 to assist Nova Scotia public school students in understanding and preparing for the needs of the province’s job market. This partnership will support the provision of services not offered in the P-12 system and connect to the resources that can be offered through the NS Works network. This position will support students in grades 7-12 and their families in exploring career options, understanding Nova Scotia Labour Market Information (LMI) and how these connect to school choices.
**Qualifications**:
- Preference will be given to individuals with a bachelor's degree/post-secondary education in Sociology, Psychology**,**Education, Human Services or Human Resources, or equivalent education and work experience
- Proven relevant experience in services related to career development working with diverse clients including Youth
- Must have significant demonstrated experience in facilitating learning group activities, workshops
- Knowledge of community organizations, service providers, and referral agencies
- Experience working with persons from diverse background with varying barriers to employment.
- Ability to access and effectively use information and communications technology
- Willingness to obtain Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) designation
- Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s license and access to reliable transportation is required
- Must have a clear Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Record Check
- Bilingual (French) considered and asset
**Position Responsibilities**:
**Develop and enhance relationships with education (public school and post-secondary), community organizations, service providers, employers/industry partners and other referral agencies**.
- Identify appropriate services and tools needed to support student’s self, career and post-secondary connections
- Plan and/or promote career sessions and workshops on behalf of, or for stakeholders
- Provide flexible support to stakeholders at school based and external locations such as “lunch and learn” or evening sessions related to student needs regarding career information and connections to post-secondary education
- Be a resource for school personnel as requested
- Gather and disseminate current and relevant career and Labour Market Information to stakeholders
- Determine the degree to which tools, information and available resources reflect the needs of community organizations, service providers, employers/industry partners and other referral agencies
**Assist students in the development and implementation of career and post-secondary goals**
- Promote and deliver Let’s Talk Careers program at the Junior and Senior High School levels
- Provide individualized and/or group career support to students and families
- Use approved Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD) career software platforms to navigate education entrance requirements and to explore workplace readiness criteria
**Access and implement tools to measure success of Career Practitioner (Student Focused) supports and outreach**
- Working collaboratively EECD, LSI and Nova Scotia Works will make recommendations related to ongoing implementation and expansion of the role and initiative
