Description
An energetic, positive, motivated individual to fill the role of Operator for the Surface Chemistry Americas business unit at our site in Saskatoon. Must be committed to working and operating safely and follow all plant and Company safety and environmental policies and procedures. The incumbent will perform duties associated with the handling of chemicals and other products to meet quality specifications and customer demands.
Some primary responsibilities include:
- Must be able to work in a team environment as well as function independently
- Must be adaptable and willing to take on a variety of tasks and roles
- Must be able to operate plant processing equipment and instrumentation to produce products on time, utilizing standard operating procedures and processes that meet quality specifications and standards
- Must be able to calculate various measurements using basic math skills. Must be able to read and operate scales. Must understand the relationship between kilograms, grams and pounds
- Custodial and snow removal duties
- Must be adept at independent problem solving and decision making
- Attend and participate in plant programs/committees/training as required, such as Department Safety, Plant Safety, Behavioral Safety, Housekeeping Audit Teams, ISO, Life Saving Rules or any other safety programs.
**Qualifications**:
- Must have a high school diploma;
- Experience in a manufacturing plant or completion of Process Operations Technology Training Program is an asset;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to handle multiple tasks and interact effectively with various employee groups, contractors and management.;
- Knowledge in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel);_
- Mechanical aptitude including use of basic tools and understanding of operation of air compressors, automatic valves;
- Knowledge of DCS control systems, SAP, and basic knowledge of chemistry a plus;_
- Required to ascend/descend stairs, ladders, tanks, railcars, and tank trucks. Pulling, pushing, and/or lifting up to 60 pounds. Packaging and palletizing of finished product into boxes, drums, or supersacks;
- Must be available to work 12-hour shifts;
- Required to wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, hardhats, safety glasses, goggles, shields, earplugs, respirator, and safety shoes;
- Forklift operation certification a plus;
- After 30 days of continuous service required to become a member of Unifor;
- May work in seated or standing positions for prolonged periods of time, performs sustained manual activities at moderate to heavy levels of exertion. Frequent walking, intermittent stooping and bending with operating equipment is essential.
