Crew Chief

**Position Description**
Reporting to the Project Manager and through to the Branch Manager the Crew Chief is responsible to carry out field surveys under the direction of a Precision Alberta/Saskatchewan Land Surveyor and or Project Manager within the guidelines of the Alberta and Saskatchewan Manuals of Standard Practice as well as the various Directives and Regulations governing surveying within the Provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan. This position represents the company and its core values with honesty and integrity.

**Core Responsibilities**
- Manage and perform required field survey work, at times these tasks may need to be completed without a Survey Assistant
- Prepare detailed and complete field notes, sketches, checklists and digital data and submitting them to office personnel in a timely manner
- Ensure your Crew and Project Managers are kept apprised of progress as well as any concerns while working on a project
- Proficient in the use of RTK, Total Stations and other survey equipment
- Ensure all requirements under Precision’s Health and Safety Program are followed and adhered to while working both on and off each worksite
- Ensure employees under your supervision work safely and follow the requirements of Precision’s Health and Safety Program
- Take reasonable care of the vehicles and equipment in your possession, ensuring that all necessary inspections are completed and submitted in a timely manner
- Provide leadership, direction and supervision to Survey Assistants
- Always have the clients’ interests at the forefront of each job
- Assist in ensuring that Precisions commitment to our clients of quality and cost effective services are delivered to the client
- Develop relationships and work effectively with necessary third parties such as construction consultants, clients, land owners or stakeholders, land agents and in house staff
- Review and submit documentation, (such as hazard assessments, truck inspections, DWR’s, etc) completed by Survey Assistants
- Other duties as assigned
**Education & Experience**
- Post-Secondary Diploma in Surveying/Geomatics from a recognized Technical Institution and/or minimum of 3-5 years field of experience with a demonstrated ability to run a crew
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with a high degree of integrity, confidentiality and professionalism
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Class 5 License
- Current First Aid/CPR
- WHMIS
- H2S Alive
- PST or CSTS
- ATV Training
**Key Performance Indicators**:
- The below Key Performance Measures will be used to determine each Crew Chiefs abilities. Based on these abilities they will be ranked as a Jr. Crew Chief, Intermediate Crew Chief or Sr. Crew Chief. Annual evaluations will help Project Managers determine which level each Crew Chief is at, and allow them to try and provide Crew Chiefs with further learning opportunities to gain more experience as those opportunities arise and when the project Manager(s) feel each individual is ready._
- Fieldwork is consistently completed in a thorough manner with accurate computations requiring few
or no revisions
- Field Notes are consistently neat, legible and complete; additionally they are turned into the office
daily or at the completion of the project, whichever is outlined by the Project Manager
- Company vehicles and personal vehicles acting on Precision’s behalf as well as all equipment is
handled with care and consistently maintained, with all documentation recorded and submitted
within provided timelines
- Crew Manager or Project Manager is kept informed on all aspects of the fieldwork
- Is well-rounded in his/her knowledge of the survey discipline, with exposure to and is able to be
tasked with any type of survey job that may become available
- Able to use both a Total Station as well as the RTK and is able to determine which piece of equipment
is most appropriate for each job
- Ability to manage multiple crews at one time ensuring you are providing leadership, direction and
mentorship to all team members
- Effectively develops relationships with necessary third parties such as construction consultants,
clients, land owners or stakeholders, land agents as well as in house staff
- Able to quickly adapt to changes within a job, from one job to the next and overall within the industry
- Submit documentation, (such as hazard assessments, truck inspections, DWR’s, etc) within their scheduled time frame.
