**JOB TITLE**:
Material Handler

**BASIC FUNCTION**:
The function of the Material Handler is to receive materials into inventory (confirming product matched the PO and identifying backorders)., manage material movements in the warehouse and arrange shipment of the finished product.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Preferred: Forklift Operator’s Certificate. Lifting Rigging, Overhead Crane Operation Certificate.
- Basic skid and crate building ability, using chop saw, tape measure and air ratchets.
- Computer literacy.
- Required: Experience in shipping, receiving or inventory management
- Must have the skills to maintain clear communication among the office, sub-contractors, suppliers, and the shop.
- Ability to effectively communicate, in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Must possess general mathematics and logic ability.
- BODY POSITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for prolonged periods of time.
- BODY MOVEMENTS: The employee must have a full range of body movements including use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, computer equipment and peripherals; and bending, reaching, and crouching.
- BODY SENSES: Must have command of all five senses: sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. These vision requirements in each area must be sufficient to shift in focus from normal to close forms when operating equipment, and be able to read at near vision, natural or corrected.
- STRENGTH: Must have the ability to lift 34 kg.
- This position will be working primarily indoors in a climate controlled, smoke-free environment, but also requires the employee to be moving through other areas on a regular basis. From this movement, the employee will encounter varying temperatures from these areas. The normal auto and air travel hazards will apply. Travel will be in all types of weather including heavy rain and below freezing temperatures with snow conditions possible.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be higher in other areas or when visiting customers’ sites.
- Required: Valid Driver’s License with clear abstract and the ability to meet the requirements of the Company Insurance carrier. Ability to cross the Canadian / United States border without encountering problems.

**PRINCIPAL DUTIES**:

- The following are principal duties of the Material Handler: _

**Receiving**:

- Ensure shipment is correct and meets specified standards before it is unloaded if possible
- Notify Supervisor and Shipper/Receiver order not complete or up to standard (see procedure)
- Check inventory levels of shop supplies and notify Shipper/Receiver in writing when at minimum levels.
- Stock material in designated area. (See procedures.)
- Remove unused items from job shelf upon completion of job (see Plant Supervisor/Purchasing).
- Ensure that stock room and receiving area are clean and always organized

**Shipping**
- Ensure proper packaging and crating of equipment is complete prior to truck arriving.
- Always keep floor area clean and open as possible, check list is completed.
- Perform regular maintenance on equipment that you are responsible for. This is to include cleaning, lubrication, and replacement of worn parts. This will require the reading and understanding of specific equipment manuals (including any equipment Almac may purchase in the future)
- Know the safe operating procedures for all equipment that you are responsible for
- And other duties and projects that may be assigned from time to time by the Plant Supervisor.

**Other**
- Maintain Material Handlers tools, strapping machines, chop saw.
- Keep lumber and skids neat and organized.
