Support Staff Regular Part-time Replacement Position

(First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements)

The Kitchen Assistant will be responsible for serving daily nutritious lunch and snacks to children attending the Child Development Centre. The position will order weekly menus based on Canada’s Food Guide, Public Health recommendations, and individual child needs. In addition, the position will be responsible for nutrition, general cleanliness of kitchen space, ordering food and ensuring children’s allergies and cultural requirements are reflected in meals.

Hours of work will be 24 hours per week between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday - Friday. This position will work on-site 5 days per week at the Child Development Centre on the Doon campus, located at 299 Doon Valley Dr in Kitchener.

**Responsibilities**:

- Plan and develop a nutritious menu in consultation with the Supervisor
- Ensure the Centre policies and procedures with respect to health and safety, sanitary practices, and food handling and storage are followed
- Provide two snacks and one lunch every day
- Ensure the snacks and lunches are nutritious and follow the Centre’s policies based on the Canada Food Guide
- Ensure menus are posted as per CCEYA (Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014) requirements, including any necessary changes
- Adhere to the nutritional, cultural and medical needs (allergies) of the children
- Order food necessary for the Centre with the Supervisor’s approval
- Receive, unpack, and organize food orders
- Perform daily washing of equipment, dishes, and kitchen area
- Clean kitchen, cupboards, shelves, freezer, fridge, and other kitchen equipment as necessary

**Qualifications**:

- Food Handler Training Certificate is required
- Criminal Reference check of the vulnerable sector is required
- Experience planning meals to meet Canada’s Food Guide is considered an asset
- First Aid & CPR certification is considered an asset
