We are seeking an individual who is aligned with our core values and reflects our core competencies to join our Wellbeing Department as the Chaplain. This is a full-time position.

**The Position**

Havergal College is a pre-eminent Canadian independent school for girls from JK to 12. Our students are nurtured intellectually, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. A focus on our spiritual life and our core values - courage, compassion, inquiry, and integrity - is an important part of how we engage as a community.

The Chaplain works as a core member of the College’s Wellbeing Team offering pastoral care to students and families and acting as a pastoral presence for faculty and staff and working closely with administration and developing value-based solutions to issues as they arise. The duties of the Chaplain are diverse and include responsibility for Religious Education, working with teams to plan special school events such as Harvest Festival and Carol Service and celebrating monthly communion.

The Chaplain epitomizes the school’s core values and Anglican identity, working alongside members of the school’s leadership team to ensure the implementation of the school’s vision and mission. Reporting to the Associate Head of School, the Chaplain is also accountable to the Director of Wellbeing when working within the Wellbeing Program.

**Specific Accountabilities**
- Work with the Head & Assistant Head of Junior School (JK - Grade 6) to plan and organize Prayers in the Junior School, offers strong support to student messaging, and offers developmentally appropriate messages.
- Work with the Head of Middle (Grades 7 & 8) & Senior School (Grades 9 - 12) and Director of Performing Arts plans and supports Upper School Prayers.
- Model and encourages regular time for reflection.
- Plan, organize, and lead monthly Eucharistic services for interested students and staff.
- Plan, organize and lead Prayers on Anglican festivals, including the annual Harvest Festival, Carol Service, Ash Wednesday and Founders’ Day Services.
- Plan and support student messaging in Prayers, to respectfully mark the major celebrations of the various faith traditions represented in the school and builds purposeful and positive school connections with families in the community from diverse faith traditions.
- Attend faculty meetings and participates in faculty professional development.
- Function as an integral part of the broader life of the school.
- Participate in diocesan affairs as desired or as required by the Diocese of Toronto.
- Represent the school and maintain positive working relationship with Havergal’s Area Bishop.
- Provide pastoral counseling services to students, families, and faculty and staff as requested. Such services may include crisis counseling, grief work and other assistance, and will include working alongside other key personnel within the Wellbeing Department.
- Is an active presence in the Boarding Program, including participating in occasional evening and weekend events.
- Under the oversight of the Head of Junior School, plan a developmentally appropriate curriculum that is respectful to the diversity within the school while providing knowledge of the Bible.
- Focus on highlighting positive connections between the world’s major religions and Christianity, aiming to build understanding, connection, compassion and respect for the various and diverse beliefs of Havergal’s community.
- Support the religious education program in Grade 7 and 8 as an advisor.
- Function as an integral part of the broader life of the school.

- Location: 1451 Avenue Rd, North York, ON M5N 2H9
- Will be required to work some evenings and weekends as it relates to the needs of the School
