The County is seeking a qualified Assistant Manager of Public Works to run their Public Works Department. Reporting directly to the General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning, this position is responsible to oversee transportation, parks, fleet services, and shop units within the County, as well as the indirect supervision of more than 21 staff in both union and non-union positions. Primary responsibilities of this position consist of administering municipal services through construction, maintenance and repair of bridges, streets/roads, storm drains/culverts, and facilities. Duties include:

- Functions as the liaison and project manager for contractors and consultants on public works projects utilizing municipal forces and other projects, as assigned by the General Manager Operations.
- Manage and supervise the work of the Public Works staff and discuss priorities and schedules with the Manager of Public Works.
- Prepares and manages the Public Works department annual capital and operating budgets.
- Reviews expenditures and approves invoices for payment within the purchasing authority assigned.
- Responsible for proposal calls, tenders, invitational tenders, and purchasing for the Public Works department.
- Responsible for implementation of public works strategies that improve municipal operations surrounding asset management, inventory management, fleet services, and utility services.
- Involved with the recruitment, hiring, training, management, scheduling, supervision, and professional development of all public works employees and various casual staff.
- Identifies, supports, and provides access for professional development of department staff.
- Maintains accurate files on all matters relating to the Public Works department.
- Develops and monitors Public Works policies.
- Prepares, for General Manager or County Manager’s approval, reports for submission to Council, and other correspondence as required.
- Responsible for preparing and filing of all reports and finances required by other County departments, levels of government, or other agencies.
- Responsible for dealing with and resolving complaints involving the Public Works department.
- Prepares items for Council and attends Council Meetings when required.
- Participates as a senior member of the Health & Safety Committee.
- Ensures all employees adhere to the safe work practices outlined in the Health & Safety Manual.
- Works closely with other County departments on various special projects.
- Assist in the developing and implementing the Asset Management Plan.
- Performs other related duties important to the efficient operation of the department, as assigned by the General Manager Operations or the Manager of Public Works.

**Job Requirements**
- Minimum of 5 years transportation-related experience directly supervising staff.
- Possesses a Civil Engineering Technology (C.E.T.) designation or equivalent work experience.
- Experience in a rural municipality is preferred.
- Extensive experience in on-site problem solving and solution creation in the field of transportation maintenance and surface drainage.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Alberta Operator’s License.
