**Location - **Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton. This position has the potential to be hybrid and will be considered after 6 months.

**Working for the** **Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences (ALES)**

The Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences (ALES) is a science-based faculty that is uniquely positioned within the College of Natural and Applied Sciences. Our professors and students draw from the natural sciences, the social sciences and the arts and humanities to seek comprehensive solutions to some of the key challenges our province, country and world face today. ALES was founded in 1915 and has a long and rich history, tracing back to one of the oldest faculties and earliest departments at the University of Alberta. Teaching, research and community engagement within the Faculty are focused on healthy human environments; the sustainability of land, forests and water; the biological, economic, social and technological underpinnings of the bio-products industry; and global food systems.

The Student Services Office is ALES students’ academic home during their time on campus. We provide compassionate, proactive, and accurate support to undergraduate, graduate and short course students within the faculty in the areas of admission, registration, experiential learning, advising and program administration. We have direct and daily impact on student well-being, program success and academic excellence.

**Position**

**Duties**
- Advises students, staff and the public on University and Faculty policies and procedures regarding admission, transfer credit, registration, withdrawals, academic standing, appeals, and convocation.
- Provides supportive and proactive information on all aspects of degree planning through mass communication, one-on-one advising sessions and large programming (examples Open House and Orientation).
- Full signing authority to grant or deny program alterations, course substitutions and deferred examinations.
- Resolves or escalates student issues using the interpretive judgment of faculty policies and procedures; escalates complex or sensitive issues to the Manager, Student Services or Associate Dean Academic as appropriate.
- Contributes to continuous service improvement initiatives and provides detailed program information to ALES faculty and staff to aid in decision-making.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Related undergraduate degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education (minimum of two years post-secondary) and significant experience.
- Minimum 2 years experience working in a student service and/or client-based environment including experience with one or more of the following: student advising/counseling, admissions and records, program administration, or recruitment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive, professional, collaborative working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and level of accuracy in detail-oriented tasks.
- Ability to thrive in an environment with multiple priorities and ongoing projects.
- Awareness of resources and comfortable supporting and referring students in distress.
- Ability to follow strict confidentiality guidelines, FOIP, and records management protocols and to follow all UAPPOL and University regulations.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Peoplesoft, FreshService, Slate, and Google Suite experience are preferred.
- Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Intervention, Community Helpers, or other student wellness-related training is considered
