Cooking from scratch is your area of expertise. You take great pride in providing hearty, home cooked meals. As the Cook, you are responsible for ensuring that proper meals are prepared and served on time to residents and guests. You ensure work areas are maintained in a safe and sanitary condition. The Cook assists in maintaining a safe and secure environment for residents, visitors and other staff members. All duties are performed in the best interest of the residents and their families and in accordance with Ashwood Manor policies and procedures, individual resident’s needs and preferences and in compliance with regulatory requirements

**Essential Duties**

Essential Duties are technical skills and knowledge that an associate requires in order to perform their role. Below is detailed information on required essential duties for this position.

1. Prepares meals for residents and guests ensuring dietary needs are met

2. Ensures residents are satisfied with all aspects of food preparation and presentation

3. Responds to resident and family member concerns and ensures appropriate action is taken with decision-making authority and/or brings to the attention of the General Manager

4. Provides direction and support to the Culinary team

5. Participates as a member of the work team and provides support to other team members

6. Tracks food inventory and takes appropriate steps to minimize waste

7. Prepares and presents meals and food for special events in a manner that promotes a positive image and reputation to the public at large

8. Effectively communicates and interacts with residents, family members, visitors and volunteers in a courteous and professional manner

9. Complies with all food preparation standards and health and safety requirements

10. Performs audits, and reports anomalies in accordance with established policies, procedures and licensing regulations

11. Understands and follows all health and safety policies and procedures. Works safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, other staff and residents. Promptly reports all actual or potentially hazardous situations

12. Maintains confidentiality of residents; personal information

13. Operates and cleans food production equipment and food preparation areas

14. May be responsible for Culinary department in the absence of the General Manager

15. Promotes the Vision, Mission and Values of Ashwood Manor as well as the Resident’s Bill of Rights

16. To maintain Food Handlers Certification

17. Performs other duties as required

**Qualifications and Experience**
- Previous experience in a volume food preparation environment in the health care or hospitality industry
- Current qualifications as a Cook from a recognized cooking program is preferred
- Food Safe Certificate required
- Current CPR & First Aid Certificate
- Knowledge and understanding of the Retirement Homes Act and other applicable legislation
Familiar with the provisions of the Occupational Health & Safety Act

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent

**Salary**: From $20.00 per hour

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Weekend availability

We screen all staff and visitors prior to entry. All staff & visitors must wear medical masks when on site. All PPE is provided

Ability to commute/relocate:

- London, ON N6P 1B4: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

**Experience**:

- cooking: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent (preferred)
