**Job Summary**

Reporting to the Manager, Finance and Administration, the Budget and Finance Officer supports the financial planning, budgeting and reporting functions of Athletics and Recreation (A&R). The Budget and Finance Officer oversees the day-to-day financial operations and performs various accounting and financial administration duties in support of the units within A&R. The incumbent is a key contact for department managers and coordinators and provides advice on the financial administration of departmental budget and accounts. Specific responsibilities include tracking, monitoring and analysis of departmental financial statements; account reconciliation, journal entries and monitoring; financial transactions; adhering to university policies and procedures; conducting internal departmental audits; preparing annual budgets, forecasts, month and year end requirements in conjunction with staff; and supporting special projects as assigned. The Budget & Finance Officer produces accurate and precise work and is able to work effectively and independently in a fast-paced environment with a high volume of activity while meeting tight deadlines. The Budget and Finance Officer will assist with developing and implementing internal controls and financial procedures. The incumbent will also provides backup and assistance to other members of the finance unit as needed.

This position performs a range of financial and accounting duties, including processing financial transactions, journal entries, monitoring cash flows and expenditures, financial reporting, budgeting, account management, and planning. This position prepares all documentation for external audit purposes and supports the audit process. This position prepares and monitors multi-year budgets for the university, makes recommendations to senior leadership team on budgetary decisions, and participates in short and long-term financial planning. This position also directs, allocates and supervises the work of other staff.

The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work variable hours, including regular attendance at early morning meetings.
- Performs a range of financial and accounting duties, including processing financial transactions, journal entries, monitoring cash flows and expenditures, financial reporting, budgeting, account management, and planning.
- Reviews various documents and contracts such as licensing agreements to ensure accuracy with relevant transactions.
- Prepares all documentation for external audit purposes and supports the audit process.
- Prepares and monitors multi-year budgets for the university, makes recommendations to senior leadership team on budgetary decisions, and participates in short and long-term financial planning.
- Acts as a primary resource to department staff on the financial administration of operating fund budgets and accounts.
- Provides input on the review, development and implementation of administrative and financial policy, procedure, and guidelines for the department.
- Directs, allocates and supervises the work of other staff.
- Conducts the Athletic Financial Awards annual transfers, reconciliation and reporting.
- Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.

Required Education
- Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent.

Required Experience
- More than 5 years of experience.

Required Licenses and Certifications
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation considered an asset.
