**The Role**

The **Seasonal**Collections Assistant**assists with the care and cataloguing of the permanent artefact and archive collections of the Britannia Mine Museum, while working closely with the Curator to enhance standards of care long term.

Responsibilities primarily include assisting with collection registration, cataloguing, electronic record keeping, and collections storage, but will also include digitization projects, deaccessioning of select items, and other administrative tasks.

**Other Details**
- Position may qualify for Young Canada Works or Canada Summer Jobs grant programs or Co-op Propel.
- All employees at the Museum are required to have a criminal record check completed (paid for by the museum).

**You**are detail oriented and enjoy working with people and objects. You have a keen interest in history, museums, curatorial functions, geology, education, mining and/or environmental issues. As a Seasonal Collections Assistant, you play a key role in helping to ensure our collections are preserved and documented to a high standard.

The Museum is governed by the Mines Act, and any employees who access our underground tunnel must be 18 years of age. This position requires access to our underground tunnel, therefore applicants must be over the age of 18.

**Key Duties & Responsibilities**
- Day to day care of the permanent artefact and archive collection, including learning internal processes related to accessioning, cataloguing, handling, preserving, transporting (on site), storing, and maintaining artefact/archive records according to accepted museum principles.
- Maintain records in the collections database (Past Perfect/other); may include cataloguing, scanning, photographing, accurately describing objects.
- Undertake collection projects, specifically notable archives that can be hosted on the Museum website.
- Perform simple cleaning of on artefacts/archives when necessary and appropriate, under the supervisor of the Curator.

**Knowledge, skills and abilities**
- An interest in social history, mining, and heritage.
- An understanding of best practices, theory, and relevant considerations related to maintaining, documenting and storing historic collection and archival information.
- Organized with a high attention to detail.
- Able to data enter with a high degree of accuracy.

**Required Experience & Qualifications**
- This opportunity is open to graduates High School, of a post-secondary level Degree, Diploma, or Certification programs related to Museum, Archive, or Library studies.
- Experience in projects requiring organizational skill and attention to detail.
- Excellent computer skills: Microsoft Office essential; database experience preferred.
