**Financial Risk Analyst**:
**Primary Purpose**: The financial risk analyst serves enterprise risk management programs, facilitates internal audit follow-ups, and supports internal controls. Working closely with unit leadership for guidance and support, this position supports ongoing initiatives associated with improvements to institutional financial planning structures, processes, and systems utilized in the development, monitoring and reporting of the university budget and other financial planning activities.

**Nature of Work**: The position reports to the Controller and works closely with the Chief Financial Officer on internal audit recommendations and follow-up. The financial risk analyst routinely works with highly confidential and sensitive information including analysis of university-wide salaries. The analyst reviews their own and others' work, interpreting policy, guidelines, and providing counsel regarding financial practices. The position routinely addresses complexities impeding the delivery of service.

**Typical Duties or Accountabilities**:

- Facilitates financial risk management discussions across multiple audiences including university executive committees, senior management teams, colleges, schools and administrative units
- Leads risk education sessions including soliciting input, drafting routine updates, and drafting case examples for key risks to help build a common understanding about large scale risks
- Advises leaders of institutional functional areas on the incorporation of financial risk assessment and management in their processes and procedures
- Supports building a common understanding of how to evaluate risk, drawing on standardized enterprise risk management program tools
- Develops and conducts standardized risk evaluation surveys, analyzes results, and prepares reports, executive summaries, and presentations and supports dissemination
- Supports follow-up activities associated with open internal audit recommendations
- Conducts routine follow-ups regarding unresolved internal audit recommendations and collects evidence to support resolving items
- Maintains records of unresolved items, owners, and closure timelines to report to management, internal audit firms, and governing bodies
- Ensures unresolved items with action plans deliver value, evaluates time and cost involved versus value of recommendations, and engages in dialogue with internal auditors and management when costs exceed value
- Organizes routine check-ins with leadership and internal auditors on unresolved items and internal audit plan progress, creating agendas, assembling review materials, and keeping minutes and a log of actions
- Assists in the development and implementation of process changes and provides input for policy development that promotes efficient utilization of resources, enhances financial internal controls and usability of financial reports, and promotes accountability and financial responsibility.

**Education**: A bachelor’s degree in finance, commerce, or business.

**Experience**: Minimum two years’ experience with budgeting, financial planning and analysis, general accounting, and financial management is an asset.

**Skills**:

- Scheduling and record-keeping skills are preferred
- Demonstrated understanding of enterprise risk management
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including verbal, written, and presentation
- Good business acumen and an understanding of cost/benefit relationships
- Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Sound judgement and the ability to manage competing demands to meet deadlines
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint

**Salary**: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $69,695.00 - 115,286.00 per annum. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
