Vancouver, Canada Cibotica Inc. Full time

**HEAD OF ROBOTICS HARDWARE (STARTUP)**

Cibotica is a startup company on a mission to change the way food is made from the ground up - using automation and robotics. We see the future of food as the co-existence of robots and humans, where robots do the boring, repetitive tasks and the humans do what they do best - be creative and face customers. The food industry is undergoing a significant shift, and Cibotica is tackling the labour issue. This is an incredible opportunity to join this space and be part of a startup set to disrupt the market with cutting-edge market-defining robots as a service.

**THE ROLE**:
We are looking for a talented senior-level head of hardware with a deep knowledge of mechatronics engineering who is passionate about bringing multi-disciplinary products to the market.

**WHO YOU ARE**:

- Seasoned mechatronics engineer with a strong experience in mechanical engineering with strong conceptualization, SolidWorks and DFM proficiency.
- Demonstrated experience with electronics and firmware development with the ability to troubleshoot any hardware problem.
- Experience bringing products to the market and manufacturing processes.
- Entrepreneurial at heart, collaborative, and love solving complex problems to serve a larger mission. Seeking to make an impact on humanity through technology.
- At your core, you are agile, innovative, resourceful, and love a good challenge that pushes you beyond your comfort zone.
- Self-motivated, ambitious individual with an initiative-taking personality.
- Comfortable wearing multiple hats, ruthlessly prioritizing tasks and taking massive action with laser-like focus.
- Able to break problems/concepts down to root elements and a master at troubleshooting issues and prioritizing next steps.
- You are hands-on and understand that some problems are best solved through rapid experimentation and physical tests rather than theory.
- Able to articulate and document concepts and facts clearly.
- Fine working independently without the need for supervision.
- A quick learner and enjoys working in a creative environment.

**EDUCATION**
- Bachelor, Master's, or PhD in one or more of the following: mechanical, mechatronics, systems or robotics engineering. However, proven ability triumphs diplomas.

**EXPERIENCE**
- At least 5+ years of experience designing and commercializing mechanical or electro-mechanical systems.
- 5+ years of experience with Solidworks, GD&T and manufacturing processes
- A strong experience with designing, assembling and troubleshooting electronics.
- A strong experience with firmware and real-time control systems is an asset.
- Proven track record in designing and commercializing products - from the R&D stage to production.
- Experience designing complex moving electro-mechanical systems - ideally focused on industrial automation and robotics.
- Skilled in project management and leading teams.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Design hardware, and create mechanical CAD models and detailed drawings - for products from concept stage to production stage.
- Assemble and test mechanical and electrical components - including various prototypes, and initial Alpha and Beta prototypes.
- Solve problems regarding core technology challenges, roll-up sleeves, rapidly iterate prototypes and perform tests to induce a solution.
- Help commercialize products and implement the best engineering and manufacturing practices. Including liaison with third parties and off-shore production facilities to support the commercialization and certification of various technologies.
- Characterize solutions for repeatability, and reliability through experiments and structured test plans (which includes eating food). Analyze test results, and prepare reports and technical documentation.
- Deliver mechanical engineering design for complex assemblies according to requirements and industry standards - including food equipment standards.
- Prioritize tasks effectively to serve the organization's objective. Maintain focus on tasks with a keen eye on goals.
- Guide, lead and manage engineers and co-op students as the team grows.
- Work closely with the product team to brainstorm and design review, and partake in product roadmap meetings to collaboratively ideate, review, and provide feedback.
- Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis on prototypes and products.
- Troubleshoot and repair Beta and early production units at customer sites.
- Thrive in a collaborative work environment and excel under pressure
- Love the startup environment and the challenges, ambiguity and rewards that come with it. Be flexible, adaptable to changes and have fun doing it.

**NICE TO HAVES**:

- Experience designing Electronic circuits and PCBs.
- Experience with Altium, Eagle or KiCAD
- Have a good understanding of communication protocols such as I2C, RS232 and,CANBUS
- Experience with agile prototyping and 3D printers
