**HOURS**:Sunday - Thursday: 8:30am - 5:00pm / 11:30am - 8:30pm 4 on 4 off

**LOCATION**: NE Hub, 14023 Victoria Trail

**Please note this is a one-year contract position.**

Boyle Street will be partnering with various Community Partner Groups to animate the facilities that they operate and utilize their spaces to benefit our city’s vulnerable population while building relationships that support reconciliation, healing, and forgiveness. These spaces will provide a safe and comfortable space for everyone to visit and be able to access a variety of services including meals, recreation, basic needs, and harm reduction support, as well as a place for coffee and companionship. Through positive relationship building and strong community engagement, these spaces are a starting point that will help foster positive outcomes.

Reporting to the Community Connections Manager the Community Connections Support Worker will work directly in the community. They will support in creating temporary relief for community members (CM) who are experiencing homelessness and/or isolation by providing short-term, daytime respite from the outdoors/weather. As well as basic needs support connecting to resources such as; housing, income, ID, medical supports, etc. Community Connections Support Worker assists with the daily winter season operations of the Drop-Ins, community engagement, and encouraging community members to participate on a voluntary level in a way that fosters improved social, physical and mental health. Provide community members with access to information, support and connections to services within Boyle Street Community Services and external agencies.

**Position Responsibilities**
- Develop relationships with community members, identifying strengths and working in a respectful way with a community that has faced trauma and social exclusion.
- Support the creation of an inclusive, safe and friendly environment for all staff, community members and external parties.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive written documentation.
- Deliver crisis intervention as needed, including risk assessment and follow-up until the situation has stabilized.
- Maintain a healthy environment by performing a variety of cleaning and housekeeping duties as required: sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning/clearing tables, washing dishes, etc.
- Assist community members in crisis and find positive resolutions.
- Maintain a relationship with all partners of Boyle Street (Interfaith Communities, Edmonton Police Services, EMS, etc.).
- Facilitate light programming within all community spaces.
- Work well within a team and rotate job stations.
- Greet community members and leads the effort to develop a warm, friendly, and inviting environment through community engagement, identifying and addressing their immediate needs, and supporting them through referrals.

**Qualifications**
- Experience working with Indigenous people and individuals from diverse cultures.
- Understand the challenges and stresses facing people who live in poverty.
- Treat people with respect and in a sensitive manner.
- Knows how to problem-solve with people who face emotional and psychological challenges.
- Able to handle multiple demands at the same time; exceptionally well organized.
- Listens well, has a calm demeanor, and knows how to solve practical problems.
- Possess robust mental health and a commitment to self-care.
- Experience working with Indigenous people and individuals from diverse cultures.
- Background in community development, social work, occupational therapy or another related field.
- Strong understanding and support of the Harm Reduction approach
- Police Check with the Vulnerable Sector and Child and Youth Intervention Check completed within the past six months
- Valid First Aid certificate or enrolled in a future course
- Experience with and knowledge of Indigenous culture and ceremonies is considered an asset.
