Communicative Disorders Assistant

West Park Healthcare Centre helps patients get their lives back by providing specialized rehabilitative and complex care after a life‐altering illness or injury such as lung disease, amputation, stroke, and traumatic musculoskeletal injuries.
West Park is building a new hospital and transforming its 27-acre site into an integrated campus of care, enabling the hospital to evolve its rehabilitative programs to meet Ontario’s future healthcare needs.
**Qualifications**:
- Graduate of a recognized 1 year Communicative Disorders
- Member of the Communicative Disorders Assistants Association of Canada preferred
- Previous experience working with adult clients with physical and/or cognitive challenges preferred
- Ability to learn high-tech computer systems and communication software, including designing and programming client Speech-Generating Devices
- Effective interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities to facilitate service delivery Experience with a range of operating systems
- Ability to use Boardmaker and graphics software programs to create communication display boards and books
- Demonstrated reliable work habits
- Some travel may be required making a valid driver’s license and use of a reliable vehicle an asset
- Previous experience working in an Augmentative and Alternative Communication Clinic preferred
- Experience with mobile technology; experience with mobile technology related to AAC is ideal preferred
- Evidence of good performance history and attendance record
- Ability to work in a manner that exemplifies the centre’s core values and helps patients_ get their life back_
- Should be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians and visitors
***Accountabilities**:
- Construct high quality communication displays including communication trays, boards and books, and within high-tech Speech-Generating Devices.
- Conduct treatment sessions with clients, facilitators and staff.
- Participate in educating and training clients and caregivers in the use of devices and/or techniques.
- Assist with client treatment groups.
- Compile, construct and calibrate therapy materials/devices.
- Install and maintain AAC software on clinic devices and computers.
- Troubleshoot technical issues with AAC software and hardware.
- Perform minor repair and cleaning of equipment.
- Participate in interprofessional team meetings and service committees as required.
- Participate in the evaluation of clinical practice and data collection.
- Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation and statistical workload.
