- As a Research Social Planner, you will direct and conduct social research leading to recommendations for social planning, as well as policy and program development and implementation. Primary duties include:
Support the Equity Program to meet its strategic objectives through research, evaluation and the promotion and implementation of disaggregated data collection across City services.
Analyze information, write reports on social issues, including Equity, and disseminate information collected and analyzed by others (for example: educational institutions, Statistics Canada, think tanks, consultants, governments).
Collaborate and consult with interdepartmental groups and staff on the research and planning aspects of work in progress, including measurement advice and program evaluation using an Equity lens.
Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis and interpret findings in recurrent and one-time reports and presentations for a wide variety of audiences.
Provide technical consultation and research methodology best practices to community partners and other business units within The City that is professional and easily understood.
Represent the department and/or business unit on planning bodies and interagency committees on research matters, including but not limited to data development standards, trend analysis, and findings that result in recommendations.
Design and manage innovative research and evaluation projects, both effectively and efficiently.
Oversee Social Research Policy Analysts and summer students in executing research activities.
- **Qualifications**
***A Master's degree in Social Sciences or a related discipline with a social research and policy emphasis.
At least 3 years of experience in interdisciplinary research, evaluation, and policy work in an applied human services setting.
Experience with developing tools to evaluate equity impact in a large complex organization and with collecting and analyzing disaggregated data would be considered strong assets.
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Business Intelligence tools and software, software for statistical analysis (SPSS), and survey design knowledge are assets.
Experience leading complex evaluations/reviews would be considered a strong asset.
Experience working across jurisdictions and with multiple collaborators would be considered an asset.
Experience with impact evaluation approaches that incorporate analysis of large administrative or demographic datasets would be considered an asset.
Project management experience and certification would be considered an asset.
Knowledge of large data sets used for community indicators and benchmarking such as Census data.
Demonstrated ability to produce high quality deliverables (reports, presentations, evaluation frameworks, data visualization, and briefing notes) for non-technical audiences.

- work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.
