BCIT’s** School of Health Sciences** is seeking a **temporary, part-time (0.4 **FTE**) Faculty** to help in the delivery of Food Microbiology 2 in the Food Technology diploma program.

This course will prepare students to develop and implement an environmental monitoring program for a food processing plant. Students will also design and perform a microbiological shelf life validation study, including data analysis, for an appropriate food product. Molecular microbiological methods will also be introduced and compared to traditional methods.**Course Learning Outcomes/Competencies**
- Develop and implement an environmental monitoring program.
- Explain how to assess the readiness of a food plant to perform pathogen swabs on food contact surfaces.
- Demonstrate how to interact with a commercial microbiological laboratory.
- Explain how microbiological procedures are used to monitor and verify the effectiveness of a food safety and quality program.
- Perform appropriate microbiological procedures for verifying the safety of a given food process.
- Identify the conditions in a food processing environment that may lead to foodborne illness.
- Describe how to respond to a microbiological result that does not meet specifications.
- Explain where to find regulatory microbiological methods and guidelines.
- Perform and interpret a microbiological shelf life validation study for a given food product.
- Compare molecular microbiological methods with traditional methods.

- Develop and deliver courses, including lectures, labs and marking
- Liaise with students and industry as required

**Qualifications**

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Teaching experience, preferably post-secondary with full course responsibility
- Education: Bachelors or equivalent, Masters preferred
- Familiar with the BC food processing industry, federal regulatory requirements and basic nutritional aspects of food.
- Experience developing and implementing food safety programs based on that meet a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standard
- Minimum 2 years industry experience.
- Understanding of various learning styles and teaching strategies
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Professional attitudes which stress commitment, responsibility for professional growth, open-mindedness, and flexibility

**Salary Range**
- Salary Range: $65,045 - $113,545 per annum.**Additional Salary Information**
- Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.Position Details
