**Summary**
The Assistant Human Resources Manager is responsible to maintain and enhance the efficiency of the organization’s human resources management process by planning, implementing and evaluating employee relations and human resource policies, programs and practices.

**General duties**
The Assistant Human Resources Manager will:
- Maintain management guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending human resource policies and procedures;
- Implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall organization strategy;
- Bridge management and employee relations by addressing demands, grievances or other issues;
- Ensure legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal requirements;
- Maintain the work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions;
- Maintain employee benefits programs and inform employees of benefits by studying and assessing benefit needs and trends;
- Manages HR department’s MIS functions;
- Manage training and development and employee engagement activities;
- Onboarding and off-boarding of employees;
- Support Payroll functions;
- Ensure planning and monitoring of employees’ performance appraisals;
- Manage the recruitment and selection process, both domestic and international;
- Conduct interviews including exit interviews;
- Plan and implement a pay structure revision;
- Establishing and conducting training programs;
- Supervise the HR unit;
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the unit;
- Perform other related duties as assigned, when required;
**Educational and Experience Requirements**
- University degree in Human Resources;
- Human Resource Designation (CHRP, CHRL or CPHR) will be a plus;
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in human resource operations;
- Experience with NGOs, nonprofit organizations, interest groups and government or government agencies or business/corporate entities will carry extra weightage;
- Relevant experience working or volunteering with Indigenous peoples, groups, or organizations is an asset;
- Experience in managing a diverse workforce a must;
- Project and international workforce management an asset.

**Knowledge and Managerial Requirements**
- Detailed knowledge of labor laws and HR best practices;
- Knowledge of leadership and management principles and practices;
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and internationally, their cultures, histories and traditions;
- Understanding and knowledge of Indigenous issues, and norms and standards relevant to promotion and protection of Indigenous women’s rights;
- Some knowledge of key issues impacting Indigenous women and girls in Canada and internationally;
- Some understanding of social policy (including violence prevention and impacts, housing, etc.);
- Ability and availability to work overtime hours;
- Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
