**Regular Full Time** | **Grid 13 ($30.86 - $32.17/hour)** | **Reporting to: Team Lead, Indigenous Wellness**
**Opportunity**
- The Indigenous Peer Coordinator is regionally situated, but attached to the larger Indigenous Wellness team and our Chilliwack office. These Peer Coordinators will hold traditional Indigenous knowledge and have lived experience with substance use. The Peer Coordinators are currently living as champions of the work through a commitment to their own wellness journey. The Peer Coordinators will work alongside First Nations individuals and families who have been affected by substance use. They will provide the link to meaningful engagement in Indigenous cultural activities and ceremony. The Peer Coordinator will support First Nations people living in urban settings, as well as Indigenous communities. Through development of peer engagement networks, shared knowledge, and connections with existing resources and programs, the Peer Coordinator will provide a collective voice to help identify gaps, inform policy or create recommendations.
**Responsibilities**
- Walk and work alongside First Nations individuals who are using substances to provide resources, harm reduction, and an individual and collective voice, thereby increasing the capacity for wellness
- Be the link to meaningful engagement through the collection of stories and information from peers in order to guide the work in areas that are needed and relevant
- Assist in developing peer engagement committees/networks in order to build a strong collective peer voice and communicate peer input to inform policy and create organizational change and standards at the community level
- Be strongly committed to your own journey of wellness, continuous learning and growth within your Indigenous culture and spirituality, in order to live as a role model to peers
- Partake in meetings and on committees at a community-level to communicate peer input to help guide policy, standards and systemic change
- Work collaboratively with other PCRS programming in each region, as well as regular collaboration with the other FNHA positions
- Conduct administrative tasks such as documenting a daily log of activities and collection of stats for reporting purposes, managing a budget, tracking spending and mileage
- Maintain health and safety of self, participants and community; manage inappropriate behaviour according to agency policy and practice; report critical incidents immediately to supervisor
**Qualifications**
- A combination of experience and education is considered. Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a relevant field plus one year direct experience, or a Diploma in related field plus two years of direct experience working with First Nations individuals
- Lived Experience with Substance Use while currently living as a role model to your peers through a commitment to your own wellness and learning within your Indigenous culture, knowledge and spirituality
- Experience in Indigenous cultural activities that support a model of wellness; strong community and cultural connections.
- Experience creating and working within a culturally inclusive environment for staff, partners, and participants.
- Indigenous Cultural Safety Training
- Non-Violence Crisis Intervention
- Knowledge of Harm Reduction practices
- Trauma-informed practice, including the generational impacts of colonialism, residential school, Indian Day School, 60s-scoops’ impact on our First Nations people
- Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector
- Occupational First-Aid Level 1 or equivalent certification
- Class 5 Driver’s License with Business Use Insurance; use of own vehicle required (Mileage is paid); Driver’s abstract
