**Salary**

Starting wage of $37.10 per hour. Range of $37.10 - $38.5 per hour, depending on years of service at SMS.
- This is a bargaining unit position, in the Professional Employees Association._

**Summary**

The Information Technology (IT) Technician is a proactive, adaptable, and service-oriented professional responsible for delivering high-quality technical support and technology solutions to the SMS community. This role ensures that students, teachers, and staff can effectively use technology for teaching, learning, and operational excellence in both on-site and hybrid environments.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

**Technical Support & Troubleshooting**
- Provide technical support for approved desktops, laptops, tablets (iPads), interactive displays (e.g., SmartBoards), projectors, cameras, printers, and other peripherals.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network connectivity issues for staff and students.
- Maintain and support audiovisual systems for classrooms, presentations, and events.

**Instructional Technology Support**
- Assist teachers in integrating approved technology into lesson plans, online learning platforms, and digital assessments.
- Support hybrid and remote learning tools (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Zoom, Teams, or similar).
- Provide basic training and documentation for staff on new tools and technology best practices.

**Systems & Network Administration**
- Support LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, and internet connectivity; escalate complex network issues as needed.
- Assist with system backups, disaster recovery testing, and cybersecurity best practices as directed.

**Technology Management & Projects**
- Collaborate on technology improvement projects, including hardware refreshers and software rollouts.
- Maintain accurate inventory of technology assets and software licenses.
- Document technical procedures, troubleshooting steps, and user guides.
- Design and generate reports as required by your supervisor.
- Provide technical support for school events, assemblies, and community functions.
- Serve as a technical advisor and liaison with industry and community groups as necessary.

**Required Education & Experience**
- Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in a similar technical support role (education or enterprise environment).
- Experience with audiovisual equipment and classroom technology.
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft 365 Certified, Google Workspace Administrator) preferred.

**Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**
- Proficiency with macOS, Windows, and iOS devices; Linux knowledge is an asset.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace) and identity management.
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals, troubleshooting methodology, and IT security best practices.
- Must possess strong analytical and communication skills, and have the ability to work in a team environment.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Ability to create and maintain website content (HTML, CSS, or CMS tools).
- Experience with databases and reporting tools is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to occasionally work outside regular hours to support events or urgent technical needs.

**Work Conditions**
- Primarily on-site in a school environment with occasional off-hours work.
- Requires manual dexterity for use of computers and equipment.
- May require lifting or moving up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to attend and support presentations, events, and school activities.
