**Job Overview**
As an **Operations/Shop Hand**, you will play a key role in supporting the Field Operations team in a dynamic carbon capture utilization and manufacturing environment. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting with the construction, maintenance, and operational tasks at our testing facility. This role is hands-on, physically demanding, and requires a strong focus on safety and adherence to process standards. Mechanical experience, shop fabrication, welding, operator skills, millwright, and maintenance experience are all valuable assets for this role. You will report directly to the Field Operations Manager.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Construction & Setup**:
- Perform general and skilled labor tasks during the fabrication, construction, and commissioning of Carbon Upcycling’s research and development facilities.
- Assist with equipment installation, assembly, and setup of workspaces.
- Organize and maintain a clean, safe work environment, ensuring all safety protocols are followed during construction phases.
**Operational Support**:
- Carry out routine labor tasks during testing operations, including transporting, organizing, loading, and unloading materials.
- Handle various testing chemicals and materials following safety guidelines.
- Operate and monitor testing equipment under supervision, ensuring processes are followed correctly.
- Assist in maintaining equipment, performing light maintenance tasks, and ensuring workspace cleanliness.
**Safety & Compliance**:
- Adhere to strict health, safety, and environmental protocols, ensuring all operations follow company and regulatory standards.
- Wear full personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including respiratory masks, gloves, and protective clothing (provided).
- Must maintain a clean-shaven face to ensure proper mask fit for respiratory protection.
- Attend and actively participate in safety meetings and operational briefings.
- Follow all safety guidelines for working with hazardous and dusty materials, including the safe handling and disposal of chemicals and carbon-based materials.
- Report any safety concerns, hazards, or incidents to supervisors and participate in the investigation and resolution of safety-related issues.
**Physical Requirements**:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Perform repetitive tasks that involve standing, walking, bending, and operating machinery for extended periods.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and snow.
- Comfortable wearing full PPE, including respiratory masks, for long durations, which requires regular shaving for proper mask fitting.
- Must be comfortable working in environments with dust and airborne particles, including confined spaces and potentially noisy areas.
- Capable of handling heavy equipment, moving materials, and performing manual labor tasks consistently throughout the workday.
**Team Collaboration & Site Support**:
- Contribute to the overall productivity of the team, ensuring work meets or exceeds expectations.
- Foster a positive work environment by collaborating effectively with the engineering and field operations teams.
- Maintain a positive attitude and work ethic while contributing to team and facility goals.
**Qualifications**:
- 1-3+ years of experience working as a general or skilled laborer in a construction, testing, or industrial setting.
- Mechanical experience, shop fabrication, operator, welding, millwright, maintenance experience is an asset.
- Strong physical ability to lift heavy objects and perform repetitive tasks.
- Highly motivated, able to work independently and under pressure.
- Experience in equipment operation and maintenance is preferred (e.g., forklift, electrical equipment).
- Comfortable handling powdered or hazardous materials (training provided if necessary).
- Previous experience in an industrial environment or research and testing facility is an asset.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in English.

- Work a fixed schedule from Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with the possibility of additional hours as needed. Any extra hours will be scheduled in advance and may offer the opportunity to bank hours for later use.
