About the role
**Position Summary**:
The **Environmental Waste Processing Technician**is an entry-level, cross-functional role supporting the safe and compliant processing of hazardous, non-hazardous waste (solids, liquid, powder), and water treatment This position involves general labour tasks, equipment operation (with training provided), and adherence to strict health, safety, and environmental regulations. Technicians will be trained to assist in various waste handling processing, sampling, analytics QAAC activities and material handling duties while contributing to a strong safety culture. Ability to work any shift when need (days/afternoons).
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Safely handle and process hazardous and non-hazardous materials including solid liquid and powder waste streams.
- Assist with waste staging, product consolidation, and blending.
- Support tank and tote transfers, sampling, labeling, and containerization.
- Perform general labour tasks including site cleanup, sweeping, and spill response.
- Operate forklifts and pallet jacks for material movement and loading/unloading (forklift certification preferred; training available).
- Train and assist with the operation of skid steer loaders and material handlers.
- Complete basic equipment checks and report maintenance needs.
- Assist with vacuum trucks, shredders, centrifuges, or other treatment equipment as needed.
- Operate forklifts for loading/unloading trailers, staging materials, and supporting site operations (certification provided if required).
- Participate in on-the-job training to operate skid steers, material handlers, or other mobile equipment, as needed.
- Perform routine checks on equipment and report any mechanical issues or safety concerns to supervision.
**Health & Safety / Compliance**
- Follow all safety procedures and requirements under the Occupational Health & Safety Act, WHMIS, and TDG.
- Utilize proper PPE at all times including respirators (full face/half face, shaving requirements, Tyvek suits, Nomex, long sleeves, gloves, eye protection etc.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety and report hazards, incidents, or unsafe conditions promptly.
- Assist with required documentation including container labels, checklists, and basic log entries.
**Qualifications**:
**Required**:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Physically capable of lifting 50 lbs, working on feet, and completing repetitive tasks in industrial conditions.
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Safety-first attitude and willingness to follow procedures and direction.
- Able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
**Preferred (Assets)**:
- Forklift operation experience or certification (training provided if not already certified).
- Experience in hazardous waste, environmental services, or industrial labour (training can be provided)
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn equipment operation and ERP system.
**Certifications (Required or Provided Upon Hire)**:
- Forklift certification
- Confined Space Entry
- Working at Heights
- First Aid & CPR
- WHMIS & TDG
**Work Conditions & Environment**:
- Industrial facility with indoor and outdoor work.
- Exposure to noise, waste materials, odours, and dust.
- Ability to work either days or afternoons when needed.
- Overtime or weekend work may be assigned based on operational.
