Custodian/janitor

The Zatzman Sportsplex is an indoor sports and community centre in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. It houses an arena, a gymnasium, two swimming pools, and other fitness, leisure, and events facilities. The Zatzman Sportsplex provides opportunities for people to participate in sports and recreation, socialize, learn, and grow—helping individuals, families, and groups realize their full potential.

Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Manager, the Custodian is responsible for the janitorial cleaning of the building, property maintenance, small repairs, and the setup of rental spaces for customer events. This role is essential for maintaining a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment at the Sportsplex.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Customer Service**
- Ensure public facilities are clean and ready for use
- Ensure that customers are greeted by staff

**Facility Maintenance**:

- Complete small physical infrastructure maintenance to the facility i.e. painting, tiling, small repairs
- Ensure snow and ice maintenance is completed
- Monitor public spaces for staff and customer safety

**Event Setup & Take-down**:

- Ensure events are set up and taken down according to specifications provided by the event office
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- 1+ plus years of experience working in facility management and maintenance
- Knowledge of cleaning and dirt extraction techniques and products
- Light equipment repair and general maintenance skills
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
- Ability to complete physically challenging tasks
- Extensive OHS training (WHMIS, fall protection, back care etc.)
- Good interpersonal skills
- Regular overtime is required during events and snowstorms
