**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

This position provides administrative support to the Medical Staff Engagement and Development program. The Program Assistant provides administration, coordination and organizational support and is the first point of contact for medical staff including physicians.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to high school graduation and three (3) to five (5) years related experience in office management with demonstrated ability in the area of administration.

**Skills And Abilities**:

- Ability to communicate and work effectively and diplomatically with several partner agencies/organizations.
- Willing to take initiative and comfortable dealing with frequent change and ambiguity.
- Open to learning new technologies and software programs.
- Conversant with PC based office support skills including typing at 60+ wpm, Microsoft Office Programs including Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher; and web hosting for online updates.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational ability.
- Medical terminology.
- Ability to take minutes.
- Ability to take direction as well as to work independently with frequent changes in workload.
- Ability to initiate projects.
- Effective problem solving skills.
- Familiarization with hospital organization and systems.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
