**LUSO Community Services is a neighbourhood resource centre located in Northeast London. We provide programs and services in NE London and Argyle area for children, youth, families, and seniors of culturally diverse and ethnic backgrounds.**

**NEWCOMER YOUTH OUTREACH WORKER**

**Job Summary**:The Community Connections program provides diverse opportunities for newly arrived newcomer youth, adults and families to integrate successfully into their community. The program is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

The Newcomer Youth Outreach Worker is responsible for the development and facilitation of group programs that engage newcomer youth (ages 11-19) in activities based on their interest. Sessions focus on skills development, social activities, informal language development through conversational circles, cooking, crafts etc. The Outreach Worker is also responsible to organize community activities, events and field trips connecting newcomer youth to community resources or local services in the community.

The Outreach Worker will work closely with other team members within the Community Connections program to support activities specifically for newcomer youth. This position will also work closely with other programs within LUSO and other service providers and partners to provide ongoing support and services to youth in Northeast London and Argyle area.

**Reporting**: The Newcomer Youth Outreach Worker will report to the Community Connections Manager. The Outreach Worker will receive day to day supervision by the Community Connections Manager in the form of formal supervision meetings as well as informal support as requested by the worker.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Create, plan, and facilitate a variety of youth focused programs and activities to meet the needs of newcomer youth residing in NE London and Argyle area
- Create events that provide opportunities for youth to fully engage in their community and meet other newcomer youth
- Promote existing programs to reach the broader newcomer youth population in Northeast London
- Conduct outreach activities to connect with newcomer youth in the neighbourhood
- Establish partnerships and relationships with local agencies, schools, etc. in the delivering ongoing programming opportunities
- Support newcomer youth to volunteer and develop life skills and interpersonal skills
- Identify and provide monthly workshops related to newcomer needs including, financial literacy; pre-employment sessions; life skills, leadership skills etc.
- Fulfill administrative duties associated of the program such as maintaining statistics, evaluation, report writing, committee meetings, community meetings, etc.
- Constructive participation as a member of the LUSO staff team by furthering collective team goals and representing the principles and values of LUSO Community Services in all interaction with others
- Operate in accordance with policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols of LUSO Community Services, and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada
- Represents the principles and values of LUSO Community Services
- Other duties as assigned

**Key Qualifications**:

- Degree or Diploma in social services field such as: Child and Youth Worker Diploma, Social Service Worker Diploma, Social Worker; or education and experience related to social services field of expertise.
- Demonstrated experience in working with newcomer youth 11-19 years of age in a front line capacity
- minimum 2 years of experience
- Experience and knowledge regarding effective community engagement strategies
- Demonstrated experience in program development and implementation
- Demonstrated leadership skills, strong organizational, and time management skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with report writing, maintaining statistics, and fundraising
- Capacity to build relationships with youth, parents, community members, and Professionals
- Proven ability to work with individuals of diverse and ethnic/cultural backgrounds
- Motivated, self-starter and able to work in a fast paced environment
- Capacity to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Forms and database entry
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- **Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required as programming is off-site and at various community locations.**:

- Ability to communicate in second language an asset. In particular
- Arabic,
- Clearance through a Vulnerable populations police screening process. Must have before commencing employment
- Current CPR and First Aid certification-must have before commencing employment
- Safe Food Handling an Asset
- Must have a registered Social Insurance Number and eligible to work in Canada

**Starting Salary: $45,338 per year**
