Purpose of the position

The General Manager provides leadership, direction and oversees the over-the-road freight brokerage products. They drive the divisions growth and strategies, while increasing the Company’s, and the Road group’s market presence as a premier logistics provider.

The General Manager is responsible for the financial performance, profitability, service delivery, client retention, new business growth, team building and operational excellence of the division while maintaining a client-centric focus.

Key Tasks
The General Manager position can be broken down into the following areas of responsibility: Finance, People Management, Operations Excellence, and Sales Performance.

Finance
- Formulates, monitors, and achieves the divisions quarterly objectives
- Executes on monthly targets and controls as defined by country and regional leadership
- Manages costs within the business and look for efficiencies and improvements
- Delivers on the bottom-line budget commitment
- Reports on revenue targets for the division
- Sets the cost budget in line with the strategy and manage costs or adjust costs according to business requirements
- Manages company assets in line with targets, forecasts, and strategy requirements
- Identifies opportunities and risks within the business that may impact the business environment and ability to deliver to shareholder commitments
- Ensures compliance with internal and external controls and KPI’s set at the global and regional levels

People Management
- Manages the delivery of the organization’s objectives through communication, measurement, and motivation of people
- Manages people’s performance and growth to create a sustainable business environment, managed through direct reports to meet company targets and strategies
- Builds teams to ensure progress and continuity of business
- Motivates and develops people through performance management systems
- Develops the people through identifying and providing relevant training
- Engages with direct reports to ensure that career path is clear for the employees, and that there is a succession plan in place for the division

Operational Excellence
- Strong transportation and operational truck brokerage knowledge, with a proven track record of implementing client and carrier solutions
- Manages and delivers on client’s commitments based on local, national, and global strategy
- Manages and develops client relationships from all areas of the business
- Partners with existing clients to retain and grow business
- Monitors implementation of new accounts to ensure all KPIs are met
- Seeks cost efficiencies and process improvements within different functions of the division
- Proven track record on selling and implementing surface transportation solutions
- Leverage the TMS to increase productivity, profitability, and operational efficiencies

Sales Performance
- Grows top line of the branch through active involvement in the sales process
- Manages and develops client relationships from all areas of the business
- Interact with other divisional sales members and managers to actively cross sell DSV Road Services
- Help achieve Sales activity KPI’s
- Assist in identifying and targeting new business for the division

OTHER DUTIES
- Highly developed organizational and people skills
- Good communication skills are essential
- Ability to build and maintain positive business relationships and function within a group dynamic
- Demonstrated ability to obtain an in-depth understanding of the diverse needs of each client and assume ownership of growing the business
- Must have excellent customer service skills
- Demonstrated ability to develop and prepare analytical reports
- Requires the ability to self-direct, work without supervision
- Balance multiple duties at once
- Possess a high attention to detail
