Lonza is **IMMEDIATELY** hiring a Biology Lab Manager will play an essential role in maintaining the Kingston R&D laboratory workplace and function. The Biology Lab Manager will work in a highly dynamic R&D environment with a group of talented R&D and Process Development scientists. The Biology Lab Manager serves as a centralized person for ordering lab consumables, managing vendors and facilities, maintaining equipment, and organizing general laboratory operations. Biology Lab will ensure the team has everything needed to succeed and driving continuous improvement efforts in the laboratory.
This role is located in the Kingston, ON office.
Key responsibilities:
- Inventory management: track laboratory consumable inventory supply, obtain quotes, prepare purchase orders, place and expedite orders, verify and communicate receipt of supplies with biology, supply chain, and finance teams.
- Equipment management: work with operations and facilities engineer and service contractors to keep track of equipment requirements including preventative maintenance, calibrations, certifications.
- Schedule, coordinate, and chaperone technicians for service visits
- Maintain equipment booking calendars on Microsoft Bookings or equivalent program.
- Schedule, chair, and annotate monthly lab meetings between R&D Biology and Process Development teams.
- Manage, update, and promote Lab Protocols, Safety SOPs, and SDSs documentation for compliance with divisional Quality Management System and with applicable regulatory requirements and standards.
- Perform other duties as necessary, including sample management, biobank organization, database maintenance, etc.
Key requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- A minimum 2 years of lab management experience or 5+ year of lab benchwork experience required
- Some familiarity with GMP compliance and ISO regulations required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite required
- Strong organizational skills required
- Must be able to track and manage inventory using Excel, QUARTZY, or equivalent
- Must be able to interface effectively with cross-functional groups to understand and respond to shifting priorities
- Must have the ability to work in a matrix team environment as well as independently on routine experiments
- Must be willing to learn and have strong attention to detail
